SMPTE 3-1998: for Television Analog Recording - Frequency Response and Operating Level of Recorders and Reproducers - Audio 1 Record on 2-in Tape Operating at 15 and 7.5 in/s This standard specifies the frequency response and operating level for recorders and reproducers for audio 1 record for 2-in quadruplex video magnetic tape recording at 15 in/s and 7.5 in/s (381 mm/s and 190.5 mm/s), as defined in ANSI/SMPTE 6-1988. It also specifies the field method of calibration of recorders and reproducers, utilizing the test tapes as defined in ANSI/SMPTE 8-1989 and ANSI/SMPTE 11-1989. SMPTE 4-1995 (Archived 2003): for TV Analog Recording-2-in Mag. Tape for Quadruplex Recording-Speed This standard specifies the nominal rates of travel of 2-in wide magnetic tape for quadruplex video magnetic tape recording. SMPTE 5-1995 (Archived 2003): for Television Analog Recording - 2-in Reels This standard specifies the dimensions of reels in maximum capacities of 750, 1650, 3600, 5540, and 7230 ft designed to accommodate the maximum thickness of 2-in wide magnetic tape for television recording, as specified in ANSI/SMPTE 1. SMPTE 6-1998: for Video Recording - 2-in Quadruplex Tape - Video, Audio and Tracking-Control Records This standard specifies both the locations for the edges of the video, audio, and tracking-control records, and the mechanical separation of the simultaneously recorded information of the video and audio records, as recorded at 15 and 7.5 in/s on 2-in quadruplex video magnetic tape. SMPTE 7-1999: for Motion-Picture Film (16-mm) - Camera Aperture Image and Usage This standard specifies the dimensions of the camera aperture image and its relative position to the reference edge and the perforations of 16-mm motion-picture film. The location of the perforations is based on dimensions given in ANSI/SMPTE 109. This standard also specifies the position of the emulsion and the frame rate for `6-mm motion-picture film perforated one or two edges. SMPTE 8-1995: for Video Recording - Quadruplex Recorders Operating at 15 in/s - Audio Level and Multifrequency Test Tape (Archived 2003) This standard specifies an audio frequency test tape to be used for adjusting the sensitivity and frequency response of audio 1 record (program audio track) and audio 2 record (cue track) of quadruplex video magnetic tape recorders operating at a tape speed of 15 in/s (381 mm/s). The tape shall be used on recorders operating in accordance with ANSI/SMPTE 3. The operating level and frequency response for audio 2 record are specified in SMPTE RP 102. SMPTE 11-1995: for Video Recording - Quadruplex Recorders Operating at 7.5 in/s - Audio Level and Multifrequency Test Tape (Archived 2003) This standard specifies an audio frequency test tape to be used for adjusting the sensitivity and frequency response of audio 1 record (program audio track) and audio 2 record (cue track) of quadruplex video magnetic tape recorders operating at a tape speed of 7.5 in/s (190.5 mm/s). The tape shall be used on recorders operating in accordance with ANSI/SMPTE 3. The operating level and frequency response for audio 2 record are specified in SMPTE RP 102. SMPTE 12M-1999: for Television, Audio and Film - Time and Control Code The standard specifies a digital time and control code for use in television, film, and accompanying audio systems operating at 30, 25, and 24 frames per second. Clauses 4, 5, and 6 specify the manner in which time is represented in frame-based systems. Clause 7 describes the structure of the time address and control bits of the code, and sets guidelines for storage of user data in the code. Clause 8 specifies the modulation method and interface characteristics of a linear time code (LTC) source. Clause 9 specifies the modulation method for inserting the code into the vertical interval of a television signal. Clause 10 summarizes the relationship between the two forms of time and control code. SMPTE 15M-1998: for Television Analog Recording - 1 -in Type B Helical Scan - Basic System Parameters This standard specifies the basic system parameters; i.e., the positions of recording head gaps, the scanning configuration, the axis of rotation of the video head wheel, and the appropriate tape tension for 1-in type B helical-scan television tape recorders for 525/60 monochrome or NTSC color systems. SMPTE 16M-1998: for Television Analog Recording - 1-in Type B Helical Scan - Records This standard specifies the dimensions and location of the video, audio, and tracking- control records and the longitudinal separation of the simultaneously recorded information of the video and audio records, as recorded on 1-in type B helical-scan television tape recordings. SMPTE 17M-1998: for Television Analog Recording - 1-in Type B Helical Scan - Frequency Response and Operating Level This standard specifies the frequency response and operating level of recorders and reproducers for audio records for 1-in type B helical-scan video tape recording. SMPTE 18M-: for Television Analog Recording - 1-in Type C - Basic System and Transport Geometry Parameters This standard specifies the general video record system, video pole tip locations, scanner parameters, scanner-guide locations, tape tension, and test conditions for 1-in type C helical-scan television analog recorders operating on the 525/60 monochrome or NTSC color systems. SMPTE 19M-2003: for Television Analog Recording - 1-in Type C - Records This standard specifies the dimensions and location of recorded video, audio, and tracking-control records for 1-in type C helical-scan television analog recorders operating in the 525/60 monochrome or NTSC color systems. SMPTE 20M-: for Television Analog Recording - 1-in Type C Recorders and Reproducers - Longitudinal Audio Characteristics This standard specifies the frequency response and reference level of recorders and reproducers for audio and longitudinal time and control code records for 1-in type C helical-scan television analog recording. SMPTE 21M-1997: for Video Recording - 3/4-in Type E Helical Scan - Records This standard specifies the location of the edges of the video, audio, and tracking- control records and the mechanical separation of the simultaneously recorded information of the video and audio records, as recorded on a 3/4-in Type E helical-scan video tape recording cassette system, operating at a tape speed of 95.3 mm/s (3.752 in/s). SMPTE 22M-1997: for Video Recording - 3/4-in Type E Helical Scan - Cassette This standard specifies the dimensions of a video cassette for use with a 3/4-in Type E helical-scan video tape recording cassette system, operating at a tape speed of 95.3 mm/s (3.752 in/s). SMPTE 24M-1996: for Television Recording - 1-in Reels (R2003) This standard specifies the configuration and dimensions for reels intended for 1-in magnetic tape for television recording on helical-scan video recorders, as specified in ANSI/SMPTE 25M-1989. Conditions before testing and testing environment are also specified. SMPTE 29M-1995: for Television Analog Recording - 1-in Type B Reference Recorders - Basic System and Transport Geometry (Archived 2003) This standard specifies test conditions, general video record system, video pole-tip locations, scanner parameters, scanner-guide locations, and the tape tension for 1-in type B helical-scan video tape reference recorders operating on the 525/60 monochrome or NTSC color systems. SMPTE 30M-1995: for Television Analog Recording - 1-in Type B Reference Recorders - Records on Reference Tapes (Archived 2003) This standard specifies the dimensions and location of video, audio, and tracking- control records on reference tapes for 1 in type B helical-scan video tape recorders, operating on the 525/60 monochrome or NTSC color system, as described in ANSI/SMPTE 29M. SMPTE 31M-2003: for Television Analog Recording - 3/4-in Type E - Small Video Cassette This standard specifies the dimensions of a video cassette for use with a 3/4-in type E helical-scan video tape recording cassette system, operating at a tape speed of 95.3 mm/s (3.75 in/s). SMPTE 32M-1998: for Video Recording - 1/2-in Type H - Cassette, Tape and Records This standard specifies the characteristics and parameters for type H, helical-scan, 1/2-in video tape recorders operating with video signals as defined by CCIR Recommendation 624-4, and having a typical scanning structure of 525 lines, 59.94 fields per second, and 2:1 interlace. This standard also specifies the double record time mode (long play, LP) and the triple record time mode (extended play, EP), and optional frequency modulation (FM) audio recording. This standard further specifies the dimensions of the video tape and compact video cassette for use in a type H, helical-scan, 1/2-in video tape recording cassette system with the aid of a cassette adapter. Finally, this standard specifies the characteristics and parameters for high-performance type H, helical-scan, 1/2-in video tape recorders operating with video signals as defined by CCIR Recommendation 624-4, and having a typical scanning structure of 525 lines, 59.94 fields per second, and 2:1 interlace. SMPTE 35M-1997: for Television Analog Recording - 1/2-in Type G - Cassette and Tape This standard specifies the dimensions of a video cassette and a video magnetic tape intended for use with 1/2-in type G video systems operating at tape speeds of 40, 20, and/or 13.3 mm/s (1.57, 0.79, and/or 0.52 in/s). SMPTE 37M-1994: for Motion-Picture Equipment - Raw Stock Cores This standard specifies the recommended sizes and dimensions of raw stock cores for 8-, 16-, 35-, 65-, and 70-mm motion-picture films. SMPTE 40-2002: for Motion-Picture Film (35-mm) - Photographic Audio Records - Release Prints This standard specifies the position, dimensions, and reproducing speed of variable-area and variable-density photographic audio records on 35-mm motion-picture release prints. This standard also specifies the longitudinal picture-audio displacement. SMPTE 41-1999: for Motion-Picture Film (16-mm) - Prints - Photographic Audio Records This standard specifies the lateral location, dimensions, and the reproducing speed of variable-area and variable-density photographic audio records on 16-mm motion-picture prints. This standard also specifies the longitudinal picture-audio displacement. The standard further specifies the width scanned in the audio reproducer. SMPTE 48-1995: for Motion-Picture film (16-mm) - Picture and Sound Contact Printing - Printed Areas This standard specifies the location and size of the printed picture and photographic sound track areas for both negative/positive and reversal contact printing operations. An opaque line should appear between picture and sound in the finished print. The dimensions given for picture-printed area and for the two widths of sound-printed area provide for an overlap of picture- and sound-printed areas, or for a gap between them. The specific aperture to be used for printing sound will be chosen to provide the desired black line, as dictated by the printing materials and processing conditions in use. SMPTE 55-2000: for Motion-Picture Film - 35- and 16-mm Audio Release Prints - Leaders and Cue Marks This standard specifies the make-up or assembly of leaders and cue marks for 35- and 16-mm audio motion-picture release prints for use in both motion-picture theaters and television studios. SMPTE 56-1996: for Motion-Picture Film - Nomenclature for Studios and Processing Laboratories This standard defines terms used in motion-picture studios and processing laboratories. SMPTE 59-1998: for Motion-Picture Film (35-mm) - Camera Aperture Images and Usage This standard specifies the dimensions of the camera aperture images and the relative positions of the vertical and horizontal centerlines of the intended image area with respect to the reference edge and the perforations of the camera negative film for 35- mm motion-picture cameras. Motion-picture cameras used for different purposes require different aperture sizes. This standard specifies the image dimensions resulting from three styles of apertures used for the following purposes: Style A: Nonanamorphic sound motion pictures Style B: Anamorphic sound motion pictures Style C: Instrumentation photography and special processes This standard also specifies the position of the photographic emulsion and the frame rate for 35-mm motion-picture cameras. SMPTE 73-2003: for Motion-Picture Film (32-mm) - 35-mm Film Perforated 32-mm, 2R This standard specifies the cutting and perforating dimensions for 35-mm motion- picture film having two rows of 16-mm type perforations, one row near each edge of the 35-mm film, and a perforation pitch of either 0.2994 in or 0.3000 in (7.605 mm or 7.620 mm). The width of the 16-mm strip after processing and slitting is also specified. SMPTE 74-1993: for Motion-Picture Cameras (16- and 8-mm) - Zero Point for Focusing Scales (R1998) This standard specifies a mark and its location to indicate the film plane on 16- and 8-mm cameras having lenses which can be focused for various object distances. SMPTE 75M-1994: for Motion-Picture Film - Raw Stock - Designation of A and B Windings This standard specifies a method for designating the type of winding for rolls of single-row perforated and multiple-row, nonsymmetrically perforated motion-picture raw stock film in terms of the reference edge. SMPTE 76-1996: for Motion-Picture Cameras - 16- and 8-mm Threaded Lens Mounts This standard specifies the dimensions required for mechanical and optical interchangeability of lenses for 16-mm and 8-mm motion-picture cameras. For 16-mm cameras with threaded lens mounts, threads having a nominal major diameter of 1-in are often specified. Similarly, for 8-mm motion-picture cameras, threads having a nominal major diameter of 5/8 in are in common use. This standard does not apply to continuous type motion-picture cameras because of the type of optical system employed in those cameras. SMPTE 83-1996: for Motion-Picture Film (16-mm) - Edge Numbers - Location and Spacing This standard defines the location within which edge numbers will appear on 16-mm motion-picture film. The maximum interval between successive numbers is also specified. SMPTE 86-1996: for Motion-Picture Film - Magnetic Audio Records - Two, Three, Four and Six Records on 35-mm and One Record on 17.5-mm Magnetic Film This standard specifies the position, dimensions, reproducing speed, and identity of the two-, three-, four-, or six-track magnetic audio records on 35-mm magnetic film, and one single-track record on 17.5-mm magnetic film. It also specifies the assignment of records to the various tracks on the magnetic coating on the film in relation to the direction of film travel. SMPTE 87M-1996: for Motion-Picture Film (16-mm) - 100-Mil Magnetic Striping This standard specifies the location and dimensions of the magnetic striping material applied to 16-mm motion-picture film, which is used for both picture and sound. SMPTE 93-1998: for Motion-Picture Film (35-mm) - Perforated BH This standard specifies the cutting and perforating dimensions for 35-mm motion-picture film with a BH-type perforation and a perforation pitch of either 0.1866 in or 0.1870 in (4.740 mm or 4.750 mm). SMPTE 96-1999: for Television - 35- and 16-mm Motion-Picture Film and 2x2-in Slides - Scanned Area and Photographic Image Area for 4:3 Aspect Ratio This standard specifies the size and location of that portion of 35- and 16-mm motion-picture film and 2x2-in slides to be reproduced by a 4:3 aspect ratio television film chain (telecine) and the size and location of the image area recorded on 35- and 16-mm motion-picture film in television-to-film recording equipment with a 4:3 aspect ratio. SMPTE 97-1999: for Motion-Picture Film (16-mm) - 200-Mil Edge Position - Magnetic Audio Record This standard specifies the position, dimensions, and reproducing speed of the nominal 0.200-in (5.08-mm) magnetic audio record on 16-mm motion-picture film. SMPTE 101-2003: for Motion-Picture Film (16-mm) - Perforated 2R-3000 - Magnetic Striping This standard specifies the location and dimensions of the magnetic striping material applied to 16-mm motion-picture film with perforations along both edges to be used for both picture and audio. SMPTE 102-2002: for Motion-Picture Film (35-mm) - Perforated CS-1870 This standard specifies the cutting and perforating dimensions for 35-mm motion-picture film with a CS type perforation and a perforation pitch of 0.1870 in (4.750 mm). SMPTE 109-2003: for Motion-Picture Film (16-mm) - Perforated 1R and 2R This standard specifies the cutting and perforating dimensions for 16-mm motion-picture film with perforations along one or both edges and a perforation pitch of either 0.2994 in or 0.3000 in (7.605 mm or 7.620 mm) for the following two categories: a) 16-mm motion-picture films; b) manufacturer-designated 16-mm professional motion-picture camera films with tighter tolerances. SMPTE 111-2001: for Motion-Picture Film (35- mm) - Prints Made on Continuous Contact Printers - Expo This standard specifies the location and width dimensions of the exposed areas for picture and photographic audio on 35-mm motion-picture prints made on continuous contact printers. This standard is applicable to the printing of motion-picture raw stock which is cut and perforated in accordance with ANSI/SMPTE 139 or ANSI/SMPTE 237. This standard refers to the adjustment of the printer, and is in accordance with ANSI/SMPTE 40. SMPTE 112-1999: for Motion-Picture Film (16-mm) - 100-Mil Magnetic Audio Record This standard specifies the position, dimensions and reproducing speed of the nominal 100-mil (2.54-mm) magnetic audio record on 16-mm motion-picture film. This standard also specifies the longitudinal picture-audio displacement on the film. SMPTE 117M-2001: for Motion-Picture Film - Photographic Audio Record Spectral Diffuse Density This standard supplements American National Standards ANSI/NAPM 2.18 and ANSI IT2.19 by specifying spectral conditions suitable for determining the sensitometric characteristics of photographic audio records on three-component subtractive color films having records made up of dye images plus silver or a metallic salt. It does not apply to the density measurement of records composed of dyes only. The conditions of this standard are applicable to systems of audio reproduction using the S-1 photosurface. It is recognized that there are other types of photosurfaces used for photographic audio reproduction that do not fall within the scope of this standard. This standard defines a practical condition by means of which it is expected that most density measurements will be made. SMPTE 119-1999: for Motion-Picture Film (70-mm) - Perforated 65-mm, KS-1870 This standard specifies the cutting and perforating dimensions for 70-mm motion-picture film perforated 65-mm, with a KS-type perforation and a perforation pitch of 0.1870 in (4.750 mm). SMPTE 125M-1995: for Television - Component Video Signal 4:2:2 - Bit-Parallel Digital Interface This standard defines an interface for system M (525/60) digital television equipment based on ITU-R BT.601.
