Escape from the everyday – every day. High Precision Injection In this cutting-edge generation of petrol direct injection, the Piezo injectors are positioned very close to the spark plugs. They inject the fuel at high pressure and with extreme precision. The injectors’ central positioning means only part of the combustion chamber needs to be fi lled with an ignitable petrol-air mixture. This enables effi cient, “lean” engine operation, especially in the heavily used part-throttle range. Electric Power Steering Unlike conventional, hydraulic steering systems, the electrical steering only uses energy during actual steering. When the steering wheel position is constant – for example at high speed along the motorway – the electric motor is inactive. Tyres with reduced rolling-resistance* While driving, tyres are constantly changing shape. This uses up energy and thus fuel. Tyres with reduced rolling-resistance have an improved design and use special materials for their road treads and side walls, thus reducing deformation. This has gone in. Auto Start/Stop function BMW four-cylinder engines with 6-speed manual transmission automatically shut down when the vehicle is stationary, for example at a red light or in a jam, when the driver activates the clutch and switches to neutral. The engine restarts as soon as the clutch is activated again. This innovation signifi cantly reduces fuel consumption, especially in city traffi c. Brake Energy Regeneration To supply a battery with electrical energy, the generator (alternator) is permanently driven using engine power, which demands additional fuel consumption. Brake Energy Regeneration means the generator usually only generates electricity when the driver either takes the foot off the accelerator or brakes – previously unused kinetic energy is transformed in coasting mode into electrical energy before being fed into the battery. In this way, electricity is generated while coasting, without consuming fuel. Some BMW EfficientDynamics features are dependent on the car’s equipment and are not available for all model variants. BMW BluePerformance* When equipped with the -speed manual transmission, the BMW d Saloon is optionally available with the new BMW BluePerformance technology. This uses an NOx storage catalytic converter to store the nitrogen oxides produced by lean-burn combustion. Brief, cyclical intervals in which a rich mixture is burned then reduce nitrogen emissions to a minimum. In this way, the BMW d Saloon with BluePerformance technology already meets the future EU emissions standard. The pleasure you get from driving a BMW is the result of fi ne engineering – always setting the benchmark because it is based on much more than engine power. This is the tradition behind BMW Effi cientDynamics. It includes the visionary Hydrogen engine, already used in a number of completely emission- free BMW  Series saloons. Also going into production soon is the BMW ActiveHybrid – an intelligent, demand-oriented combination of internal combustion engine and electric motor. And every BMW already includes the multi-award-winning BMW Effi cientDynamics technology package as standard that boosts dynamics even further whilst simultaneously reducing fuel consumption and CO 2 emissions. Optimum Shift Indicator Timely gear shifts are one of the most effective and easiest ways to save fuel. This is where the Optimum Shift Indicator in conjunction with 6-speed manual transmission comes in. It shows the driver what gear to use in order to drive more effi ciently. Models with four-cylinder in-line engines (i, i, i, d, d and d) come with the kidney slats in Black.  Lights package with reading lights front and rear, illuminated vanity mirrors, front footwell lights and soft light function for rear passengers. When the doors are unlocked, this ensures even illumination of the entry/exit area, for safe and convenient vehicle entry/exit.  Rain sensor with automatic driving lights control: once activated, the rain sensor will automatically switch on the windscreen wipers when it begins to rain, adjusting the wiper frequency in line with rainfall intensity. The integrated automatic driving lights control will switch on the low beam automatically at dusk and in tunnels.  High-beam assistant supports the driver at night by automatically switching to low beam when there is oncoming traffic or another car ahead, or when the road is sufficiently illuminated. * Only available in conjunction with Xenon Headlights.  Trailer tow hitch, incl. trailer stability control, with electric unlocking via a switch in the luggage compartment. If the trailer hitch is not needed, it can be folded away mechanically.  Xenon Headlights for high and low beam, incl. After accelerating, the system automatically returns to the pre-set speed. Braking deactivates this function. The six-cylinder models come with an additional braking function.  Active Cruise Control (ACC) enables comfortable driving at a pre-selected speed. When driving in columns of traffi c, your BMW adapts to the speed of a slower preceding vehicle and automatically maintains a pre-set distance (for six-cylinder models only).  M leather steering wheel provides excellent grip due to its thicker rim. The integrated multifunction buttons can be used to operate the radio, CD player and telephone (if installed).  Start/Stop button for starting the engine. Please consult your BMW partner.  Park Distance Control (PDC), for front and rear or rear only, facilitates the process of parking and manoeuvring in confined spaces, giving you an acoustic signal for the distance between your car and an obstacle. In conjunction with the navigation system, PDC will also provide a visual indication on the monitor display.  TV function. The ." display can be used as a TV set while the vehicle is stationary. Enables reception of terrestrial analogue and digital (DVB-T) television programmes (only in combination with Navigation system Professional).  Air conditioning system, incl. microfilter and air recirculation switch, ensures comfortable climatic conditions in the vehicle interior at any time of the year, with manual adjustment of air volume and distribution.  Auxiliary heating with remote control – ideal e.g. in winter and on cold days. When you get into your car, the windows are already free of ice and the interior is cosy and warm.  On-board computer displays information about average speed, average fuel consumption and range.  Auto Start/Stop display in the Info Display tells you when the engine has been switched off by the Auto Start/Stop function (for example at traffic lights or in a traffic queue). The display is switched off when the engine is restarted automatically (on all four-cylinder models with manual transmission).  Optimum Shift Indicator tells you when shifting to another gear would save fuel. The system indicates whether you should shift up or down and adapts its recommendations to your driving style. When accelerating, for example, the next shift indication comes at the point where a higher gear would enable you to continue accelerating at the same rate, but with reduced fuel consumption.  Navigation system Professional, incl.
