Deraa, where Friday prayers were banned today, is the place where the protests began six weeks ago. The French Football Federation has begun an inquiry into allegations that officials secretly planned to introduce racial quotas in national training programmes to restrict the number of non-white players. An investigative website, Mediapart, alleged that the football authorities had approved a plan to restrict the number of black players at football training centres to 30% of the total. Senior officials have denied the accusations.
