CEO工资的天文数字 CEO工资的天文数字 This is a message to all other Yahoo! shareholders… On the Internet, Eric Jackson has been leading a grassroots shareholder revolt, calling for the ouster of Yahoo CEO, Terry Semel. “He is leading this company down the wrong path.” Today, at the annual shareholder meeting broadcast on the web, Jackson, a management consultant confronted Semel. “Are you saying that you are happy being a stronger No. 2 than being a No.1 in search? ” “I don’t think I said it at all. And I think, you are being, you’re being a little cute about that. So, do you have any other question?” Semel is under fire, because Yahoo! stock price fell 35% last year, as rival Google rose 11%. But Semel still ranked among the country’s highest-paid CEOs. His compensation, more than 170 million dollars, said shareholder adviser Shirley Westcott. “As a shareholder, look at his pay level, you have to scratch your head and wonder what’s the reason for this?” Soaring CEO pay has left a lot of shareholders scratching their heads. The average chief executive now makes a hundred and seventy-nine times as much as a rank and file worker, nearly double the ratio of a decade ago. But they deserve the perks, some say, because they are in charge of thousands of employees, managing billions of dollars. “CEOs have never had bigger responsibilities, running bigger companies and that’s why they are making some of the big bucks.” Eric Jackson’s effort to oust Terry Semel failed today. Shareholders have rights to raise questions. But a third of Yahoo! shareholders voted against the board of directors. And Jackson hopes Yahoo! management won’t have to search for the meaning in that message. Anthony Mason, CBS News.
