The CO scan is a new instrument from SITA designed to accompany the industry in the 2 elaboration of their environmental policy. This tool calculates the reduced CO emission 2 that is achieved through a sustainable waste management. To do so it maps out all the flows of the waste management and explores what are the possibilities for sorting, transporting and processing this waste in an even more sustainable way. This enables you, firstly, to evaluate concretely how socially responsible a company is in dealing with its waste and, secondly, to make recommendations in order to further improve these performances. Today SITA has issued Flanders expo the CO certificate to confirm the results of the 2 CO scan conducted by SITA for Flanders expo. It calculated the CO effect of the waste 22 policy of the fair organisation and produced this clear result. A large share of this waste is separately collected at the site?s own container park. SITA takes the type of fair into account in its waste management, so that the container park is always optimally utilised. So after each fair the waste streams are collected with a high degree of separation and then processed. - Paper and cardboard: 53.2 tonnes - Glass: 15.0 tonnes - Compost waste: 40.9 tonnes - EPS: 1 tonne - Wood: 97.6 tonnes - Other: 464.4 tonnes The current processing of industrial waste at SITA in 2009 generates for Flanders expo vis-à-vis 1990 a savings of 786 tonnes of CO per year (1990 is used as the reference 2 year because it was adopted as the benchmark by the Kyoto Protocol). This is equivalent to 4,051,000 km less by car on our roads (or, another way of putting it: 100 fewer trips around the world by car).
