论《看不见的人》的隐身主题 毕业 On the Invisibility Theme in Invisible Man Abstract For long Ralph Ellison has been considered to be one of the Americas finest writers of twentieth century. As his masterpiece, Invisible Man represents the height of his literary genius, and wins him wide recognitions as one of the most talented American writers. Mainly focused on the study of the main characters of Ralph Ellison’s Invisible Man, identity and symbolism, this thesis is to explore the theme of invisibility in Invisible Man. The thesis is composed of three parts. First is about the invisibility. The invisibility has two sides:  invisibility and psychological invisibility. The second part centers on the invisibility theme from two points. In this part, the nameless protagonists blindness will be introduced to reveal the reason of his invisibility. Then the paper emphasizes on the two other characters: Dr. Bledsoe and the vet doctor who have a great effect on protagonists invisibility. And next, it centers on the invisible identity. The great success of Ellisons Invisible Man lies not only in the theme he deals with, but also in the way he chooses and employs to present his theme. So in the final part, the thesis focuses on the writing skills, such as symbolism to enlighten the theme. Ralph Ellison uses the theme of invisibility to expose the abnormal interrelationship between the self and the world, and displays a psychological insight into human being and society. All of this has made his work contemporary and yet timeless.
