Module 11 National heroes Unit 3 Language in use 课型 教学目标 Knowledge: To summarize and consolidate past simple wh-questions and the new vocabulary Key vocabulary--- as, the next, travel to a place, sick people Key structures—What did…? When did…? How did…? Why didn’t…? Ability: Writing skill: giving a talk about a hero. Improve the students’ writing ability. Moral Education: Learning about the national heroes. 教学重点 To check and practice new words; to practice the sentence structures; To apply skills in writing about a hero; 教学难点 (1)、The past simple wh- questions 教学方法 Formal and interactive practice 教学用具 Multi-Media (or Tape recorder, OHP) 教学过程 Step 1 Warming up (module task) 1. Tell how to talk about a person Start: something about his/her life … was born…lived…worked… Middle: what he/she did When he/she was 25,he/she… In 1975he/she… End: why you like him/her I think he/she is great because… 2. Students give a talk about hero in the front of the blackboard 意图:通过这一活动训练,帮助学生掌握叙述人物时间的方法以及对一般过去时的用法。 Step 2 Around the world 1. Students read the passage and ask and answer questions in pairs. 1) When was she born? She was born in 1910. 2) When did she start to work as a teacher? She started to work as a teacher in 1928. 3) Who did she help? She helped sick people. 4) How old was she when she died? She died at the age of 87. 2. Students read it aloud. 3. Detail explanation: 1) travel to India = go to India 2) as (prep.) 作为 e.g: We must work hard as a student. 作为学生,我们必须努力学习。 My brother works in Beijing as a teacher. 我哥哥在北京当老师。 3) sick people = people who are ill 4. Students give a talk about Mother Teresa in groups of four. 设计意图:通过这一环节,使学生掌握更多过去英雄的事件,扩充自己的知识范围。 Step 3 Vocabulary learning. 1. Students put the given words into the correct columns 2. Check the answers: About Yang Liwei: Space: Earth, altitude, astronaut, flight, land, orbit, pilot, spacecraft Time: last, days ago, eleven years later, five years later, last month, the next year, years ago, yesterday About Zhan Tianyou: Nation: foreign, government, national hero, patriotic Engineer: bridge, build, museum, railroad, tunnel 3. Words explanation: 1) land (vi.)着陆 land on the island (vt.)使着陆 land an airplane (n.) 陆地 on the land 2) next 指从现在算起的下一个,常与将来时连用。 the next 从过去某个时间算起的下一个,常与过去时连用。 e.g. What will you do next week? The next day he went to the town. 设计意图:通过活动三和四的训练,帮助学生积累叙述人物时间的词语,为语言的输出做好铺垫。 Step 4 Additional practice 1. 为什么中国政府不想让外国工程师建筑那条铁路? Why didn’t the Chinese government want foreign engineers to build the railroad? 2. 你认为昨晚的电影怎样? What did you think of the film last night? 3. 当他去世时,中国人在长城附近建造了一个有关他的生平的博物馆。 When he died, the Chinese opened a museum about his life near the Great Wall. 4. 宇宙飞船绕地球飞行了十四圈,并到了一个海拔343公里的高度。 The spacecraft orbited the Earth 14 times and reached an altitude of 343 kilometers. 5. 第二天早上6:23这名38岁的宇航员安全着陆。 The 38-year-old astronaut landed safely at 6:23 am the next day. 6. 中国现在成为第三个把人送入太空的国家。 China is now the third country to send a person into space. 7. 十一年后他和另外十三名飞行员参加了中国太空项目。 11 years later, he joined the Chinese space programme with 13 other pilots. 8. 地球上的人们看到了杨利伟的太空飞行。 People on Earth watched Yang Liwei’s space flight on TV. 9. 他向地球上的每一个人挥手致意并展示了中国国旗。 He waved to everyone on Earth and showed the Chinese national flag. 10. 作为一名工程师他是如何展示他的能力的? How did he show his skill as an engineer? 设计意图:通过对句子达的练习,帮助学生梳理所学的一般过去时的表达,以便更好的运用一般过去时。 Homework Choose a national hero you like best and write a short passage about him/ her.
