荆棘鸟英文读后感
There is a egend about a bird which sings just once in its life ,more sweetly than any other creature on the face of the earth. From the moment it leaves the nest it searches for a thorn tree ,and does not rest until it has found one. Then ,singing among the savage branches, it impales itself upon the longest, sharpest spine. And,dying,it rises above its own agony to out- carol the lark and the nightingale. One superlative song, existence the price. But the whole world stills to listen , and God inHis heaven smiles. For the best is only bought at the cost of great pain…… Or so says the legend. It’s the start of .Ralph,a priest who attracted by the feminity of Meggie, fell in love with Meggie the first he met her. However,he gave both his body and soul to God,and lived to become a cardinal as the most thing in his life. Therefore,in order to be promoted to be the Cardinal,he abandoned Meggie though he loved her from the deep bottom of his heart. But as a priest,he can’t express his love. What he can do was to take care of Meggie just as a father or brother. His heart hurt and he became more and more painful as Meggie grew up,and finally he had to repulse Meggie’s love.Ralph thought his pain would fade as time goes by and if Meggie married other people. On the contrary,he was wrong. He died in Meggie’s arms, and left with regrets. When I was silly and ignorant,I was attracted by the story about the thorn birds, and went into the world of the thorn birds. The Thorn Birds is a 1977 best-selling novel by Colleen McCullough, an Australian author. She was born Wellington, NSW, of Irish Catholic stock, was educated at the University of Sydney. After brief periods as schoolteacher, library assistant and journalist, she worked as a neurophysiologist in Sydney and England and at the Yale University's School of International Medicine 1967-76. Her first novel,Tim, published in the USA in 1974, depicts the relationship between Tim Melville, an unskilled labourer with the mind of a child and the body of an Adonis, and Mary Horton, a plain spinster in her forties. AlthoughTimmet with some commercial success and was made into a film, its critical reception has been unenthusiastic. Her second novel,The Thorn Birds, a colourful and sometimes bizarre story that chronicles the fortunes of several generations of the Cleary family on Drogheda station in northern NSW, was selected from a proof copy by the United States Literary Guild. As a result it became a best-seller in both hardback and paperback; a television series was screened in 1983. It’s a family saga,it depicted vivid and large-than-life characters, the twists and and turns of the beautiful plot development, the unforgettable love took me to the magic age.But now, when I read the book again, the enthusiasm in the past has disappeared, the childishness has just faded, and I can read the intresting novel from the point of view of life. Finally,I find it's a book full of charms and marrow of life. But I still can’t understand the deep vicissitude.I can’t understand the implicitive and gentle Paddy, the cold and fragile Fiona, the violent and wistful Frank, the oxerbearing and unbridled Mrs.Carson, the pure and perseverance Dane, and the strange cerebral Justine. All of them are well fleshed out,but I can’t truly feel the thought that was embedded in their love and hate.Until now,I still can’t understand the destiny of the family. What I love most is the true love between Meggie and Father Ralph. It held sorrowfully in my heart, and can’t control my feelings. Girls have many colorful dreams about the helpless and griefless love. However, when I read every word in the book,my emotional swings for Meggie and Ralph,I am happy for their meeting,I am warm for their knowing each other,I am sad for their leaving,I am touched for their missing each other.Until the end,Ralph died quietly and serenely in Meggie’s arms.I teardrop on the piece of paper to form a crystal flowers. Death is not the ending, love can prolong lives, the heavy love which lasts half-century will be engraved to my heart.Just as Meggie was still alive.Just as Ralph still loved.I can see the answer clearly,no matter how I remember the true love,it will be faded in my memory in the end.The distance between the ten-year-old Meggie and the twenty-eight-year-old Ralph is not only eighteen years, but also a insurmountable divide forever. As a priest,Ralph took the road of no return to love.and Meggie’s first love was destined for no returns. So,their happiness was just a fiction, because they were parted long, until Ralph died. They were always lonely.even though their love was beyond the distance, the secular world, even the life and death. But,their mutual waiting alone, they couldn’t live together, they couldn’t meet, they couldn’t stop loving each other ,and they couldn’t continue their love. The woe depict thoroughly.,and it hurt my heart. As she wrote in the end,” When we we plunge into thorns chest, we understand that. We know it. However, we still to do so, is still to be put into thorns pierced his chest.”They knew the love wasn’t going to have a happy ending clearly, but they had strong wills. They knew the bitter is more than the happiness clearly, but they never regreted. The meaning of thorns’lives is that looking for the meaning of their lives__singing,it’s also the superlative song. It’s short,it has gone, but the song is still reverberated in the sky,the love is still in my heart. To read the book will be the most gorgeous times in my life.I remember having told that some people compare the thorns with the leaves butterflies before. The thorns distill the lives into the last superlative song,it’s short but bright. The leaves butterflies live quietly for a long time,it’s momotomously but it lasts long.Different choices make different destiny. One,cuts its life, only for its minute’s bright;Another, gives up its brilliant, only for lengnow its life. The world is huge, all sorts of strangeness can exist. The things that one is searching for is exactly another is giving up.However, what do we think of their right and wrong?Do you want to be a bright thorn bird,or a indifferent leaf butterfly? It only depends on you.The book reveals the meaning of thorn birds. It looks for a bright ending, even though it costs its life. I’m thinking when I read the book again,Meggie,a strong-minded girl daring to love a person she shouldn’t love, did the very best she could to pursue her free love. Both her life and love were unfortunate, but so unsubmissive she was that she went through all suffering. In the novel,I like Meggie best due to her tolerance, patience, grace and so on.And it’s Meggie that I show so much sympathy for.Meggie is more miserable than Ralph because she had to endure pain both physically and psychologically. No matter how grief she is,how cruel she was facing, she handled it,and she stick to her love. The whole book was wrote Meggie’s whole life, the author inks most character images. In her tottering life,I can see the soul of the book—insistance, persistence, regardless of anything, love forever.Meggie, is a thorn bird. She spent her whole life in keeping to the faint light in the slim love. The little boy Dane they created died, then her only consolation collapses. However, she choose to forgive. It seemed that Meggie got nothing, actully she got everything.Just like the thorn bird, she went to the difficult and bitter way.She never regret, and she can’t regret. The more she pains, the more she loves. The subject of the thorn birds is forever:love and destiny.I can understand many things quite different in their love imbroglio. It is about love, and destiny.I have read the book with an open mind.I expect that the thorn birds can give me a n answer which is more charming in the future. Closing the book,I remember Rabindranath Tagore said in the poem, Let life be beautiful like summer flowers and death like autumn leaves. Are the thorn birds dreaming the beautiful sing like summer flowers? As a reader says”I like to recommend the book to everybody who has the literacy.”It reads like that all of us are thorn birds,we want to search for the thorns, then pierce the thorns in our chests. The process is beautiful, because we are working hard with all our might. I was deeply moved by the sentence:As long as there is a pair of eyes cry for me,I can bear the pain for my life. For life, for survival, for dream, even for the things which are subtle,we should pierce the thorns in our chests.
