Hearing about that misery, many poor people, who all got protected by Quyuan once, went to the river intending to get back the body of him, they boated on the river, searching for the body again and again but still failed. Then they hoped to cook some rice to send to this great man to show their respect (this is a tradition from the folk, they cook fresh food for the dead people as they could still eat. And during such a kind of ceremony, people express their love and yearning for the dead). In case fishes therein ate the rice, they used some leaves to wrap the rice and threw them into the river, hoping their beloved Quyuan could receive their good wishes. From then on, we decide that day a special day called “duan wu” Fesitval, which comes on May the 5th (from lunar calendar, in this year it will come on June 19th). On that day, people will eat Zongzi and hold boating competition according to the old traditions. Story about the Monk Jumps over the WallStory about the Monk Jumps over the WallAs is well known that monks should be free from all kinds of desire and seduction (when they eat, only vegetables are allowed). However, as early as 1300 years ago, a quite famous monk visited Fujian Province and settled down in a temple neighboring a small restaurant. Every night the monk could smell something inviting across the wall from the restaurant, so inviting so that the monk climbed over wall and stealed to the unkown delicious food, because of the strongly inviting smell, the monk could not help taking a bite at it. Thus he broke the rules that should be obeyed by a monk. Therefore, the name of the dish vividly describes how delicious it is ,even the desire-free monk could not keep away from it. Why is it so inviting that people cannot control their eyes, noses and mouths? Because it’s made from many valuable super seafood like shark’s fin, fish snout, abalone, sea cucumber, dried scallops, together with chicken, duck, ham slices, pork tendon, dried mushroom and bamboo shoots stewed in a special pot for at least 8 hours. I’m afraid no one can resist the temptation from such delicious food!
