Light is a fundamental par t of life. It gives us the natural rhythm of day and night, determines how we see things and brings the world to life. Accordingly, light has a major impact on our well-being, emotions and performance. All are par t of our drive to help build world-class, patient- centric and cost-effective healthcare facilities. 6 Balancing people’s lighting needs In exploring the needs and desires of our customers and end-users in healthcare, we have identified three key lighting themes, in addition to basic functional lighting – ambience, well-being and sustainability. integrated solutions Ambience Sustainability Well-being DiVoCare Healthcare Centre, Munich Ambience and comfort People who have to stay in hospital often feel anxious. Being away from home and in unfamiliar clinical surroundings doesn’t make things any easier. If patients can influence the room or area they are in, they feel more in control and at ease. Lighting provides a unique way to transform our surroundings and create appealing, emotionally uplifting atmospheres. Simply adjusting the light enables us to personalize a space, creating our own ambience – whether it be bright functional light for an examination environment or a warm, pleasant lighting atmosphere in which the patient can enjoy a relaxing chat with visitors. Ambience and personalization can be par ticularly relevant in diagnostic areas, waiting areas, patient rooms and entrance lobbies/ receptions. 7 DiVoCare Healthcare Centre, Munich Well-being and performance Good lighting doesn’t just help us to see better, it also affects how we feel. The rhythm of light and darkness synchronizes our biological clock. Two of the characteristics of light that strongly influence how we feel – both physiologically and psychologically – are the level and ‘cool’ or ‘warm’ color appearance of the light. In high-intensity 24/7 working environments like hospitals, a stimu- lating lighting ambience and the possibility to adapt the environment to our personal preferences enhances our motivation and sense of well-being, helping healthcare professionals to perform even more effectively. Well-being can be par ticularly relevant in staff offices and patient rooms. Sustainability Philips has a long-standing commitment to providing lighting solutions that improve people’s lives and are environmentally sound. We believe we can help create a sustainable future by developing innovative lighting solutions that are kinder to the environment (minimized hazardous substances) and offer lower cost of ownership (maximized energy savings and lifetime). In round-the-clock working environments like hospitals in par ticular, the energy and cost-saving potential of our advanced lighting solutions is substantial. Find out more on the following pages. 8 Lighting a greener future Environmentally friendly innovations Eco-Design has formed the cornerstone of Philips Lighting product design since the launch of the first energy-saving compact fluo- rescent lamp in 1980. Now we are the industry leader in energy- efficient lighting with, for example, our state-of-the-ar t MASTER TL5 lamps, MASTER TL-D Eco lamps, LED light sources, electronic gear, high-efficiency optics and energy-saving lighting controls. Ahead of legislation Our solutions are ahead of legislation set by governmental authorities. Our energy-efficient products cut energy costs and at the same time reduce greenhouse gases (expressed in CO 2 ), as addressed, for example, in the Building Directive and the for th- coming legislation on Energy Using Products (EUP). Moreover, going beyond the European legislation on the Restriction on Hazardous Substances (RoHS), we are setting the pace in mercury reduction to Asklepios Hospital, Hamburg ensure a safer environment. Finally, longer-lasting and lifetime-reliable products reduce the cost associated with the take-back legislation Waste of Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE). These products enable the reduction of waste and, at the same time, reduce maintenance and end-of-life costs. Over the coming years, the sustainability imperative will increasingly affect every area of the healthcare facility. We are committed to driving the sustainability process forward, in order to help secure a greener future for all. Not to mention the impact that our energy use has on the environment. Lighting consumes around 20% of all electricity worldwide. We cannot do without lighting, but we can make it more energy-efficient. For example, a typical office building (2000 m2) using older less energy-efficient lighting technology could save 15,000 kg of CO 2 and €3000 in running costs per year by upgrading its lighting to the latest technology. So how can your hospital make a difference? It‘s simple: Philips offers a complete range of energy-saving solutions. You can recognize these products by our Green Logo. Products with this logo are not only energy-efficient, and reduce the running cost of lighting, but also provide better-quality light. It’s a simple switch! For example, by replacing your T8 fluorescent lamps with MASTER TL-D Eco lamps you immediately save more than 10% energy. How- ever, it is even more effective to upgrade your lighting installation to, for example, a T5 fluorescent system with lighting controls. In this way, you can save up to 75% energy. Lighting solutions for all areas Hospitals are made up of a large number of different kinds of rooms, such as corridors, restaurants, technical rooms, lobbies, etc. Many of these can also be found in other large public buildings and are rather similar in terms of lighting requirements. Many others, however, are completely unique to the hospital environment, e.g. patient wards, examination rooms, scanner rooms and operating theaters. Lighting such a variety of spaces presents a significant challenge. Philips has the expertise and a complete range of solutions to create lighting designs for any given area, both inside and outside the hospital. The map to the right shows the routing of a visitor to and through the hospital. The application pages of this brochure appear in the same order as the visitor experiences the different areas of the hospital, star ting from outside: the visitor sees the hospital building from a distance, parks his or her car in the car park and then experiences the main indoor spaces inside the building. Outdoor areas Waiting rooms Lobby 10 Restaurants and cafés Lobby Conference room Examination rooms Office Corridors Operating theaters Imaging rooms Traffic and car parks 11 Patient rooms Architectural outdoor lighting The patient as customer More and more patients are deciding for themselves which hospital to go to. Their choice is based on a variety of factors. They usually follow the advice they are given by their own doctor. However, since it can be difficult for a patient to evaluate the medical quality of a hospital, the general image and reputation of the facility and factors like service, atmosphere and accessibility will play an increasingly important role. LEDflood LEDflood is a distinctive outdoor floodlight range for illuminating and enhancing structures with light. Affinium LED String Flexible string of LEDs that has been especially designed for channel letters LEDline2 LEDline2 is a LED-based range of linear floodlights that can be used to illuminate and enhance both contemporary and historical architecture. Colored architectural façade lighting creates an unforgettable landmark Image and recognition through lighting Façade lighting communicates care and hospitality Architectural lighting makes the building a visible par t of the city skyline 13 á Swiss Medical, Buenos Aires Lighting is an image builder Lighting can help to communicate the hospital’s healthcare mission to the outside world and at the same time can increase its operating efficiency. Architectural outdoor lighting, for example, can turn the building into a prominent landmark, a living symbol of care and hospitality. Solid-state or LED lighting represents the most significant development in lighting since the discovery of electric light well over a century ago. Offering unprecedented design freedom in terms of color, dynamics, miniaturization, architectural integration and energy efficiency, it is opening up possibilities we could previously only dream of, e.g. for image building and ambience creation. Entrance areas and shops MASTER PL-R Eco lamp and gear Energy-efficient compact downlight offering outstanding light quality Mood and effect lighting in the restaurant Welcoming light expresses hospitality Welcoming and attraction through lighting Warm bright light creates an atmosphere conducive to communication Homogeneous bright light attracts attention and creates a good working environment at the reception A good first impression Attractive lighting in the entrance area can make a hospital seem more welcoming. A harmonious lighting atmosphere makes people less apprehensive, inspires confidence and makes the surroundings look inviting. Also, a patient or visitor is less likely to feel intimidated if they can find their way around easily. Entrance halls generally consist of four distinct zones – the entrance area, the reception desk, the waiting area and the area that leads people into the rest of the building. The entrance hall almost always connects to a restaurant and a gift shop. Attraction and guidance are the main priorities here. The reception desk in par ticular is a multi-purpose area in which many different tasks are performed, including reading, writing, computer work and, most importantly, communication. The reception desk also needs to be the eye-catcher in the space, so that visitors will be drawn to it straight away. 15 Fugato downlight Comprising both fixed and adjustable downlights, the Fugato range provides exceptional freedom in terms of lighting design. á Asklepios Hospital, Hamburg SmartForm Reflecting Philips’ drive for simplicity, SmartForm recessed is a family of highly versatile modular luminaires. Available in square and rectangular versions for MASTER TL5 lamps. Adaptation The adaptation zone in the entrance hall is where people step from bright daylight into the darker hospital interior during the day and from the darkness outside into a brightly lit interior at night. In order to help people’s eyes adjust to the different levels of brightness, the adaptation zone should have lighting at the entrance that is par ticularly bright during the day, with the level of interior lighting decreasing towards the exit at night. Daylight-following dynamic lighting is an excellent option here. Combining functional and decorative solutions, the right choice of lighting in the entrance hall immediately reinforces the hospital’s identity. Uniform general lighting helps convey a sense of security, while LED-based luminaires are an ideal option for guidance and orientation. SmartForm Reflecting Philips’ drive for simplicity, SmartForm recessed is a family of highly versatile modular luminaires. MASTER TL5 Xtra lamps and HF-P Xtreme gear Thanks to their long and reliable lifetime, this system is ideal for applications where lighting is burning almost 24/7. MASTER TL-D Eco Replaces T8 fluorescent lamps and enables energy savings of more than 10%. Corridors and circulation areas Linking function Corridors and other circulation areas form the link between the different areas of the hospital, which is often open 24 hours a day. Because people prefer to enter a brightly illuminated corridor than a dark one, specific lighting requirements are specified to create optimum guidance, par ticularly for visitors who have come to the hospital for the first time. In addition, the comfort of patients who are being wheeled along the corridor on trolleys also has to be taken into consideration. They are looking upward, and a high level of brightness can be extremely uncomfortable. In public corridors where patients are not being wheeled along, the lighting should focus more on guidance and ambience. Bright light gives a feeling of safety A good lighting scheme helps to guide people around the building Guidance and safety through lighting Smart lighting control helps to save energy and reduce costs by dimming lighting when fewer people are around 17 á DiVoCare Healthcare Centre, Munich Lighting design enhances atmosphere Here we can see how lighting can help to enhance the atmosphere in areas which are normally perceived as transit spaces. For example, lighting up the ceiling makes rooms appear higher. Light effects on the walls give monotonous areas more variety. Coordinated lighting levels The lighting in corridors and other circulation areas should be coordinated with the lighting in the adjacent rooms to avoid differences in illuminance when a person passes from one area to another. This often means that provision must be made to reduce the illuminance in the corridor at night. In cases where the corridor does not receive sufficient natural daylight during the day, the ar tificial light in the corridors should facilitate visual adaptation by providing a fairly high illuminance on the wall opposite the doors of the rooms. Luminaire mounting An asymmetrical layout of luminaires along the corridor is less disturbing to patients who are being wheeled along the corridor on trolleys. The frequency, spacing and specific mounting features of the luminaires can enhance the guiding qualities of the lighting. Waiting rooms Light, clean spaces There’s no better place to star t with ambient lighting than the waiting room. It sets the tone for the entire hospital. In the waiting area of an outpatient depar tment, where people may be tense, anxious or in pain, a soft homely atmosphere has a welcoming, calming effect, while the impression of hygiene and cleanness fosters a sense of trust. Potential for more In many cases, the waiting room could offer patients and visitors a much more pleasant experience than it currently does. As well as the standard basic facilities – chairs, books and magazines – there could, for instance, be a visitor’s desk where you can borrow radio headphones, portable audio players, audio books and hand-held video games. There could also be an area with individual TVs and headphones to enter tain you without disturbing others, and tables where you can play cards or even plug in a laptop. Celino Free Floor-Standing The free floor-standing range is a new lighting solution that provides maximum flexibility as a stand-alone light source or secondary task lighting. Good lighting can create distraction and stimulate social interaction Reduced anxiety and increased sense of well-being through lighting A clean and open atmosphere creates a hygienic impression Soft light creates a homely and calming effect 19 UnicOne With the Philips UnicOne collection you can truly blend your luminaires into your interior architecture. MASTER LED Offering 45,000 hours of energy-efficient, high-quality light, this LED lamp is the ideal alternative to incandescent, halogen and compact fluorescent lamps. á DiVoCare Healthcare Centre, Munich Designed to relax Lighting solutions for a waiting room should be designed around the people – children or adults – who are going to experience them. A home-like lighting ambience has a settling effect on patients as they wait. General lighting combined with dimmable wall lighting and flexible free-standing or table luminaires will radiate a relaxing, ‘domestic’ ambience. Such a positive ambience can be achieved by using more indirect than direct lighting, in warm white light, with different lighting systems for different par ts of the waiting area and not-too-dramatic accent lighting. Color accents from LED elements can be used to create distraction and promote social interaction, while daylight-following dynamic lighting will fos
