Lyrics:
English version:
Summer has come and passed The innocent can never last Wake me up
When September ends
Like my fathers come to pass Seven years has gone so fast Wake me up
When September ends
Here comes the rain again Falling from the stars
Drenched in my pain again Becoming who we are
As my memory rests
But never forgets what I lost Wake me up
When September ends
Summer has come and passed The innocent can never last Wake me up
When september ends
Ring out the bells again Like we did when spring began Wake me up
When September ends
Here comes the rain again Falling from the stars
Drenched in my pain again
Becoming who we are As my memory rests But never forgets what I lost
Wake me up
When september ends Summer has come and passed
The innocent can never last
Wake me up
When September ends Like my fathers come to pass
Twenty years has gone so fast
Wake me up
When September ends Wake me up
When September ends Wake me up
When September ends
Background of Wake me up when september ends:
This song is different from Green Day’s traditional punk style, on the contrary, it
is a anti-war song as well as a lyric song with a soothing voice.
The song describes a story like this: in the MV, a sweet girl and a shy boy fell in love in a small common American town. However, happy time never lasts forever. In 2003, Iraqi War broke out, every man in this town of his age has to go to the front whitout choice. The girl wanted to stop him but obviously, the boy wanted to prove him so bad and make contribution to his home country. At this very moment, the lead singer appears in front of the camera for a second with blood on his face which predicted a tragic ending. Then the MV shows some frames which are relly miserable, the fire, fog, bullets flies through the sky and stuff. Suddenly, a bullet hit the boy on his chest and he falled into the ground. In the meantime, the girl sitted besides the
farmland thousands miles away from Iraq watching the direction where the boy departed. Her mouth mumbling: what way you always have somebody here for you.
I'm never gonna leave you……
On december, will you come back? When you come back, plesse wake me up bacause I am still waiting……
A brief introduction about Green Day:
Green Day is an American rock band which was formed in 1989. The band has consisted of Billie Joe Armstrong (vocals, guitar), Mike Dirnt (bass guitar, vocals), and Tré Cool (drums, percussion) for the majority of its existence.
Green Day was originally part of the punk rock scene at 924 Gilman Street in Berkeley, California. Their early releases for independent record label Lookout! Records earned them a grassroots fanbase, some of whom felt alienated when the band signed to a major label. Nevertheless, its major label debut Dookie (1994) became a breakout success and eventually sold over 10 million copies in the U.S. and 15 million worldwide. As a result, Green Day was widely credited, alongside fellow California punk bands The Offspring and Rancid, with reviving mainstream interest in and popularizing punk rock in the United States. Green Day's three follow-up albums, Insomniac, Nimrod and Warning did not achieve the massive success of Dookie, but they were still successful, reaching double platinum, double platinum, and gold status respectively. Green Day's 2004 rock opera American Idiot reignited the band's popularity with a younger generation, selling five million copies in the U.S. The band's eighth studio album, 21st Century Breakdown, was released on May 15, 2009.
Green Day has sold over 22 million records in the United States. They have won three Grammy Awards; Best Alternative Album for Dookie, Best Rock Album for American Idiot, and Record of the Year for "Boulevard of Broken Dreams”.
My personal story and feeling about this song:
Honestly, a friend of mine recommended this song to me when I was a freshman. My friend runs a band in Henan university and he always has a exquisite taste about rock music. He used to say this to me many times. Like “Hey! Bro! You really need to
listen GD’s music cause these guys are awesome and their songs could drive you crazy. Jay’s music suck! ” I know Green Day is his favourite band and he strongly suggested me to listen their works. So I say: “Why not?” The first time I heard Wake
me up when september ends, I fall in love whit it instantly and I can’t help singing
along. I think why this song fascinates me so much are its strong beat, beautiful lyric, the singer’s soothing voice, and most of all, it is a anti-war song and it claim the world back into peace which is very meaningful.
That is pretty much my personal story and feeling about this song.
