When some kind of pain killer was brought out recently, researchers found that the colours turned the customers off because they made the product look weak and ineffective. Eventually, it came on the market in a dark blue and white package—blue because we think of it as safe, and white as calm. The size of a product can attract a shopper. But quite often a bottle doesn’ t contain as much as it appears to. Producers spend much of their efforts on how to make a container looks bigger than its real size. It is believed that the betterknown companies spend, on average, 70 percent of the total cost of the product itself on packaging! The most successful producers know that it’s not enough to have a good product, packaging is sometimes even more important. On one hand, they do their best to improve the quality of their products, On the other hand, they spend much money and efforts on the packaging of the products they make. They try to make their products looks as most attractive as possible to the consumers. Some even invite a famous star to be an image prolocutor of their products. Now, in this society of vast variety of products for choice, packaging becomes more and more important, and it becomes a science being studies by specialists. In college, there is new major called packaging. Students in this major learn not only the knowledge of the products, sales, language, packaging materials and other tradtional courses, but also such courses as arts and design. In a word, only the products with good quality and good packaging will sell well in the market.
