美国加州奥克兰市中心城市OaklandCityCenter,CA,USA After master planning a 12-block City Center Redevelopment Project, VBN designed the initial retail and office complex known as City Square. This project consists of four buildings designed on the deck of the existing City Center Parking Garage, for 235,000 square feet of retail and office space in three-story low-rise configuration around a sunny outdoor square. This project was technically complex due to the loading characteristics of the garage, which required use of lightweight materials and modular construction transferring the loads efficiently to the existing garage structure. To bring pedestrians into the heart of City Square, the existing John B. Williams Plaza off the 12th Street/City Center BART Station was renovated to add new escalators, as well as new lighting, paving and other features. Also as part of the infrastructure development of Downtown Oakland's City Center, the City Center West, 1,465-car garage is strategically located in the midst of this future development area. The garage paved a new mid-block pedestrian plaza and amphitheater with sculptures created by Stephen De Staebler. City Center West provides opportunities for ground level retail amenities along the Center Walk that serves the plaza and adjoining development.
