大学英语专业是否该学高数

As an English major student, there's always a course in my curriculum that is not directly related to my major. So whether this type of course should cancel has been a heated debate for a long time. Among them, mathematics course is the most controversial. Some students observe that math plays an important role in their daily life and helps them adapt to the future life in logical thinking. But some students hold the opposite ideas. They don't think it's necessary to learn the math which can be solved by computers. Nothing can make students feel lower than the process to learn complex calculation methods that they are not good at. In my opinion, the English major students should not study maths in college. First of all, English majors are supposed to be sensitive to language, literature and culture so that they have a broad view of the world. However, stiff mathematics thoughts are not good for them to think actively. Secondly, as undergraduates, they all have handled the basic math skills for their normal daily life like counting which they have been taught through the whole middle school and primary school. So they don't need to challenge the more difficult math knowledge which has nothing to do with their major. Thirdly, since English is a subject to train students' thinking ability while cultivating their language ability that needs to practice a lot, it requires students devote more energy into studying. Therefore, the time left is definitely not enough for them to learn another difficult subject. As what I mentioned above, in order to improve the ability of English majors, so that they can play the professional skills to the best. I believe that it can be a common sense that the English majors should not study math in college.
