In the high-heeled shoes , women can't help holding one's head high ,showing their beautiful s-curves. For women , high heels are just like a beautiful song's touching notes. They make women more vivid and charming。But it's a pity that beauty always seems to be associated with costs。Wearing high heels for a long time may cause your feet to deformity , and then set out a series of adverse reactions beyond your imagination. This is the famous Chinese star Michelle Yeoh (Yang Ziqiong). Wearing high heels to various kinds of activities causes her feet to deformity. Always around you , such things happen often. In the Department of Orthopedics , doctors often receive complaints about high heels. Those who usually wear high heels every day claimed that they felt more painful when they change back into the flats.You may be confused : Why?! The orthopedists give us the answer. It is because their calves have depauperated. The ultrasonic examination has showed that the length of their calves were much shorter than others'. Very terrifying , isn't it ? But it could be more than that. So , what on earth might high heels bring us ? As medical students , it is very necessary for us to understand ? the price of such beauty ?. The first to suffer are our feet. In one's sharp-pointed , slender end high heel shoes , the feet are forced to slip to the front , squeezed in the narrow space. And one's heel has to rise up , which make more weight of the body transfer to the metatarsal bones. The overload will wear out fat pad beneath the metatarsal bones. It seems like a small horse pulling a large cart. How can it be competent to do that ? And it of course cause the Metatarsalgia. One's forefoot and toes will suffer pressure and pain. With the time passing , it will probably cause damage such as corns , calluses and blisters. And the pressure may result in fatigue fracture of your metatarsal bones. What's more , wearing high heels can easily bring about deformity , like Hallux Valgus , hammer toes and flat foot. In the narrow toecap , the long-termed compression leads to the big toe's outward dipping and the first metatarsophalangeal joint's leaning at an angle of more than 15?. When the deformity is serious , head of metatarsal bone could be hemispheric,and the second toe is forced to protrude because of extrusion。The compression and the friction result in the skin's thickening and osteoproliferation , also may cause bursa synovialis there. If it is inflamed , we call the red swelling point brachiocephalic arteritis. Meanwhile , high heels cause the metatarsophalangeal joints' hyperextension and proximal interphalangeal joints' flexion contracture , that is ? the buckling effect ?, which , further , bring about the hammer toes. It seems most likely to occur on toes except for the big one , and mostly on the second one . Sometimes it may involve the other joints on foot. The cardinal symptoms are the metatarsophalangeal joints' swelling and pain and instability. The chief reason of high heels' causing the flat foot is the laxity of the plantar fascia. Our foot is consisted of many strong muscles and ligaments which are connected by bones. They form like a bow and that is what we call the arch of foot. The arch is of great elasticity to protect our body by buffering the shock , making the gravity dispersed to each point of the foot , so that it can not only stabilize one's standing posture but keep the plantar vessels and nerves from direct pressure. And the plantar fascia is located at the bottom , like the bowstring maintaining its bow. The longer the brachium of the arch is , the bigger tension the plantar fascia will have. Gradually , the plantar fascia become loose , therewith the lowering of the arch. The serious consequence is the flat foot. Besides , high heels can result in the After Achilles Bursitis and Morton's Neuroma. When you are walking , heels are prone to move as strephenopodia , oppressing the soft tissue between posterolateral surface of the calcaneus and back counter. When the inflamed bursa synovialis swell , it occurs on the tendon a painful lump. In some circumstances , the injury and pressure will generate benign proliferation of the foot nervous system. We call it Morton's Neuroma. It mostly occurs at nerves of the third and fourth interdigital space , which causes sharp and hot pain. The toes are possibly to suffer pain or numbness. Women who wear high heels are also very likely to twist their ankles. The extroversion and introversion out of normal activity lead to tearing the joint capsules , ligaments and tendons, etc. We usually call it ?wai-jiao?. On flat shoes , we are prone to introversion. But the body itself continually adjust the tilting force. If you walk on the high heels , the adjustment will weaken. And the higher the heel is , the bigger the tilting force will be and the serious you may get injured. Several times of sprain can even lead to regular ankle twisting. Also , high heels are extremely detrimental to other parts of our body. Girls who like wearing high heels are very likely to suffer from degenerative gonarthritis in the future. There are also other bad effects , such as osphyalgia and cervical spondylosis. Despite the various kinds of disadvantages , it is unrealistic for women to abandon the charming high heels. And shoes with proper height serves like an artificial arch of foot , which can not only resist injures and fatigue , but keep one's good posture. The key precautions are selecting comfortable shoes and strengthening foot health protection. Most doctors advise the following methods of maintaining the equilibrium between foot health and beauty. First of all , you'd better select shoes at three or four o'clock in the afternoon. Try to walk in your new shoes for at least ten minutes to make sure that it is perfect for you. After the purchase , you can put cushions on the pressurized points like the forefoot and the heel. The heel of the shoes chosen should not be higher than five centimeters and too small , otherwise it will be difficult for you to balance yourself. And don't forget to leave more space for the toes. Next in importance , it is not suitable to wear high heels everyday. Those who have to wear heels to work could put a pair of flat shoes in the office so that they are able to relax their feet for some time. When women get home after an exhausting day , it is really a relaxation to put one's feet into the comfortably warm water for five minutes or more. Some regular ankle exercises is good for health too. Once you twist your ankle , you should go to the hospital promptly. At last , I want to mind you , girls in your adolescence should not wear high heels. Because doing that prematurely means compressive force to your immature pelvis , which leads to contracted pelvis outlet. And there may be some unpredictable influence on delivery in the adulthood. If your car tires are out of alignment, you can only drive so many miles before you are at risk of blowing a tire. The same is true for your body. Things need to be in alignment. It is recommended that you only wear high heels for special occasions and even then only a heel height no more than five centimeters. Your feet and body will thank you - and you'll save money on trips to the podiatrist's office.
