EMERALD ACROSS THE BAY 12K
CREW JOB DESCRIPTIONS
EDGEWOOD CREWS
Volunteer Check-in – This job entails checking in all volunteers on the morning of the event, handing out any necessary equipment, t-shirts and instructions. The volunteer check-in crew needs to understand all jobs, where volunteers need to go once they check in and how to re-assign jobs as necessary. These things will be explained at the training meeting and the morning of the event. These people need to be organized, assertive and good decision makers.
Volunteers Needed: 4 Check-in: 6:00am
Course Monitor – Monitors will be placed at various points along the route where participants might need assistance (i.e. turns, intersections, speed bumps, obstacles, etc.). With the aid of an orange vest / flag, course monitors help direct the runners and keep an eye out for traffic and dangerous spots on the course. Acting as a cheerleader for the runners is also encouraged. (Course monitors get to their positions either by carpool, shuttle, or if within walking distance -- they walk out).
Volunteers Needed (Sausalito): 8 Check-in: 6:00am
Volunteers Needed (San Francisco): 32 Check-in: 6:15am
Start Crowd Control – Crowd Control works with the start director to organize
the starting line area. Each start is arranged differently so your director will explain what needs to be done. Work usually involves banner hanging and organizing participants according to their running pace. You need to be able to move quickly, follow directions and tie ropes.
Volunteers Needed: 7 Check-in: 6:15am
Sweat Check (or Clothes Check) – Participants often wear layers of clothing that
they want to check during the race. At the clothes check area are bags and magic markers. Volunteers should help runners put their clothing in the bag and then mark the bag with the participant's bib number. The marked bags are then organized in numerical order so that when participants return, the volunteer can easily retrieve their bag by simply checking the bib # and finding the corresponding bag.
Volunteers Needed (Sausalito): 15 Check-in: 6:00am
Fill In Crew – This group will fill in as needed. Examples distributing T-shirts, working at a water station, helping with clothes check or refreshments, etc. Flexible volunteers wanted!
Volunteers Needed: 19 Check-in: 7:30am
