ExamView 6.2.0.0 Tests to Moodle Instructions
NOTE: You may update ExamView by using a Holt math disk. If updating, please be sure to back
up your personal ExamView Banks and Tests on the C drive prior to installing the new version.
Then delete the math programs and place the saved Banks and Tests into the new version’s Banks
and Tests.
STEP 1 - IN EXAMVIEW
Create and Save Test
Export test to the first Blackboard link – See Below
Then save it without.tst on the test name into a one-time use folder, which might look this. It is okay
to have ExamView’s .tst for “Save as type, however.
After hitting “Save” above, the screen below pops up. For simplicity’s sake, place the name of the test
under “Name:” and under “Directory Name,” but you may name it anything you wish. Hit okay.
Now open the folder into which you placed the first Blackboard Export file. You will see a zip file. See
below.
You must then open the zip file because Moodle can’t see inside it. After opening, you will see the screen
below. All Blackboard export files will have a Dat file (res00000) in the zip folder. Copy the Dat file
“res00000” and don’t change the name. That is why you have a separate folder for each test.
After copying, you must place it next to the zip folder you just created. I’m not sure if moving a Dat file
will work, so just copy it to be sure. Your screen will look like this after doing so.
STEP 2 - GO TO MOODLE
NOTE: The following instructions may seem simplistic to those who are Moodle experts, but they
might prove useful to those who are rookies. Just skip to the next point that is new to you.
Open and log into Moodle. Go to your class and click “Turn editing on” at the top. If your Moodle is
divided into sections, go to that section.
Add “Activity” and scroll down to “Quiz.” See below.
On this next screen, name the test at the top.
ON THE SAME SCREEN AS ABOVE, SET PREFERENCES – Scroll to set your preferences. For
example, on “Display” hit “yes” to “Shuffle Questions” and “Shuffle within Questions” if you want the
students to take different versions of the test.
Scroll to “Attempts” and put in 1. Put in 2 for students to have opportunity to have 2 tries. Fill in other
sections if needed.
Scroll to “Review Options.” The most common options are listed below.
1. Feedback
2. Score (If you want your students only to receive their score without answers and feedback,
only check “Score.”
3. Overall feedback
Scroll to “Security” and change password after each test if you have classes divided into groups.
Scroll to “Save and Display”
See below.
A NEW PAGE POPS UP: Click the “Import” tab on at the top. Choose 1st Blackboard. See Below.
On the same page as above, scroll to “Import file from file upload”…Browse
Find test next to zip address (res00000) and upload. The screen below pops up.
Don’t do anything on the above page other than clicking the “Quiz” tab on top. This screen below will
pop up.
Scroll down to “Show All.” Click “Select All” and “Add to Quiz.”
On the screen below, do the following:
1. The left side has questions. Scroll to the bottom and show the total points you want on the test.
2. The right side also has questions. This is a bank. You must delete any questions on the right side via
“Show all” and “Select all. If you don’t, those questions will be added to the test as duplicate
questions.
3. After doing this the screen below will show up asking if you want to delete these questions. Click
“Yes.”
Your screen will then look like the screen below, with no questions on the right.
You are now ready to click “Preview” to check your quiz.
