Methods PatientsinthetwogroupsalltookhuperzineAtablets(provided byHenanZhongmeiZhulinZhongshengPharmaceuticalCo.Ltd), atatotaldoseof200gaday,twiceadayfor8weeksasone courseofdisease.Administrationofanydrugsthatwouldpromote intelligenceandaffectbrainmetabolismwasstoppedbeforetreat— ment.Asforpatientswithinsomnia,benzodiazepinedrugsofsmall doseswereusedincombinationwithhuperzineA.Forpatients withpsychiatricsymptoms,asmalldoseoftranquilizerwasadded. MQvalueandMMSEscoreweremeasuredbeforeandaftertreat— ment.Blood,urineroutine.liverandkidneyfunotions.andelec— trocardiogramweredetected. DISCUSSIoN Manyscholarsbelievethatlearningandmemoryfunotionsare closelvrelatedtotheneuralcholinergicsystem~.Thelevelofneu— rotransmitteracetylcholineinthebrainispositivelyrelatedto learningandmemoryfunction.Itisthusevidentthatacetylcholine hasanimportantroleincognitivememoryfunotionofthebrain.
