美国丽人影评 The loneliness of American society 10级语言二班周婷婷 1040501372 In the first place ,I thought it’s a warm film about a girl and her love, and actually, it’s a film about a family and people related to them. Father was a man in middle-aged crisis and had a bad relationship with mother. To his wife and daughter , he is a looser . he has worked for a company for 14 years but still dispensable to his boss.Mother Carolyn is a strong-mind woman who eagers to succeed. She is a real slave to the material and very dissatisfied with her husband Lester.She admired a competitor who did well in her work field. Daughter Janie is a typical teenager. She is depressed, anxious, displeasure and fell inferior about herself. Janie hates her father. In the beginning of the film, she even says that she wanted to kill his father. She didn’t like talking, and complained about her own family. There were still some interesting people live next to their house. A couple of gays, they looked very kind and they were always in a harmony. The guy Richy who moved in recently likes photographing. The guy’s strict father treated his son as in military and weird mother always said some strange words. The daughter’s good friend Angela was very funny and attractive. Angela desires to be a model and she get confident from the men who want to have sex with her. She regards herself as a mature, charming and different women. To her, nothing is worse than being ordinary. She likes to boast of her sexual experience in front of classmate.Actually,she is a virgin all the time,,but her behaviors were like a whore. This is a typical American film. When I watched the film, I thought every character was freak. Father was addicted in the beauty of Angela when he first saw her. Then he was always in a illusion that he saw her and she showed her beautiful body to him. This made daughter very angry. She thought her dad was like a goat. At that time, she began to talk to her neighbor, Ricky. She found that he is not a weird guy but a guy who has his own idea. Then she fell in love with him. In a party, father and Ricky got to know each other, and they became good friends. Father knew that Ricky was not a ordinary student but he sold marijuana to make money. Ricky was caught by his boss that he was hanging with others in working time, he said to his boss that he would quit the job. That inspired father, and he quited his job and threatened his boss then his boss gave he one year’s salary. At that time, mother talked to the man she admired and had sex with him. She found that they had the same interests and the same stress. She felt content. The family went into a new state. All the members were in passion. Later, Ricky’s father thought his son provided sex service to gay. He was angry, and Ricky decided to leave home with daughter. It rained heavily outside. Father found mother’s love affair and mother felt very regretful. Angela came to their home and flirt with father. Father couldn’t control himself and wanted to have sex with her. Angela told him that she was a virgin. That’s shocked father. Father told Angela that she was not ordinary and she was very beautiful. Then she went to bathroom to clean herself and wanted to have a new life. Things happened. Father was shot. There was blood on the table. Mother came back and felt crazy. It’s the ending. The film represents the life of ordinary American family and their mental state. Sometimes our Chinese can’t understand, but all is true. In Rickey's family, long term military life makes Rickey's father become worship of power. There is the temperament of Nazi Germany in his character. He is violent and suspicious. One thing worth to be mentioned is that Rickey's father hates homosexuality to death, hiding the truth that he is also a gay almost all his life. Rickey's mother is likely to be a mental patient. She seems to live in her own world and react slowly to the outside world. Rickey is a serious problem youth. He takes drugs and deals drug. He always use his DV to record some strange things,which are beautiful in his eyes. He doesn't care what himself is in others' eyes,he only try to lives in the way he wants his life to be. Angela was a girl who was not self-confident and pretended to be a popular girl. Daughter relied on Angela. When she met Ricky, they found they were the same people, although they had different background. Ricky was ruled by his father and had no freedom. Daughter’s parents allowed her do anything she liked. Their feelings were the same: they were lack of love and warmth of the family. I like Ricky most, although he commits crime. But he has his own aim, and he tried his best to complete it. In the whole movie, there are two scenes that touched me most. One is that Rickey shows a video he recorded to Janie and Janie burst into tear. They have their first kiss at that moment. The content of the video is a plastic bag and leaves flying in the air for almost twenty minutes. Many classmates laughed when they saw this. But I was moved by it. How hard it is to find a person that could understand us, especially in our age. And I have known that the most beautiful thing for Rickey is just free. He The other scenes is at the moment Lester was shot, some beautiful moments in life were flashed through his mind: the summer camping, the stars, the golden autumn leaves, the birth of his daughter Janie, his wife laughing with happiness. Then, Lester suddenly knew the meaning of life. Just like what Lester said ,it’s hard to stay mad when there is so much beauty in the world. Sometimes I feel like I’m seeing it all at once, and it’s too much, my heart fills up like a balloon that’s about to burst…and then I remember to relax, and stop trying to hold on it, and then it flows through me like rain and I can’t feel anything but gratitude for every single moment for my stupid little life. Before we watch this movie ,what we know about Ameica is always the side of wonderful and cool lifestyles that they can enjoy their lives everyday and have no hard time.However,by watching the classic movie which got a lot of prizes,we finally see the other side of Ameica,a country that is not that beautiful.on the one hand,the movie has showed us audiences that lives in Ameirca is not always like what we were impressed by the normal movie or something.on the other hand,it also show us a kind of family which also has a lot of freak things and not always happy all the time.At the same time,we can know how pathetic life is when you feel everything in the world means nothing. I am pity for Lester's death at the ending, he death at the moment he determine to start a new life with his family. I learn from to regard today as the last day of my life and be gratitude for everything and every moment of my life.
