英语口语考试 Topic 1 Festivals Sub-topic 1 Which festivals are most popular with young people in China? Although Christianity is unofficial in China, there are an estimated 10 million baptized Christians (about 1 percent of the population) who celebrate the birth of Jesus at Christmas time. The popularity of midnight mass has grown so swiftly over the past few years that most Catholic churches can not hold the numbers who come out Christmas Eve. While Christmas Day is not a public holiday, Christmas celebrations are becoming more popular in China itself. Particularly in urban areas, one can find Christmas trees, lights, and other decorations on the streets and in department stores. Attendance at Christmas Eve mass has also become more popular in recent years. With each passing year, the Chinese public is becoming more conscious about the significance of Christmas, and more and more people are beginning to participate and immerse themselves in the spirit of Christmas celebrations. With the increasing globalization of Western culture, Christmas has inevitably come to China. Christmas is becoming more and more important in China both in terms of a commercial gimmick and a cultural and religious festival. It is widely celebrated by all segments of society but as yet has not reached the national fever pitch of the west and so is not yet a holiday. However this does not perturb China's youth who take great joy in sending out Christmas cards and holding get-togethers with family and friends. Any Westerner walking down the street in a Chinese city will feel right at home as shops and businesses make the most of the festive spirit by adorning their shops with all the usual glitzy decorations one would expect to find in a Western country. There as also "绿色圣诞节(lǜsè shèngdànjié) Green Christmas in China" on which students take part in many environmental protection activities such as, recycling, waste disposal and forest protection. Topic 2 Health Sub-topic 1 What important factors contribute to health? Why? Our health is the most important thing that we really have in the world. We may take away our house or money, we can survive. However, without our health we will die. For me, being healthy eating, no smoking and keep up my social life are the main factors that contribute to my good health. Healthy eating is an important thing to maintain my good health. Many people cannot deny that eating high-fat food like French fries and hamburger leads us to obesity and some cardiovascular disease, so I try to limit and also control the mount of animal protein I consume. In addition, I eat more vegetable and fresh fruit which are rich in fiber and vitamins in my daily meal. It helps me not only have a normal blood pressure, but also get a good shape. Of course, many people believe that nonsmoking is another factor that contribute to our good health. Studies have shown that smoking people usually get some serious disease like high pressure and heart attack than nonsmoker. Besides, smoking may cause lung cancer. That is why scientist has said smoking is harmful to our health. I believe too. Also, friends are an important part of one's health. Studies have shown that people with a wide range of social contacts get fewer complaints and loneliness than people who don't. Laughing is another important part of health. I like to laugh with my friends and I always feel better when I am with them than I am alone. In short, by eating properly and no smoking, it helps me stay in good shape and avoid some serious disease. By spending my time with my friends, I can keep in mind happiness. Both are all part of thing that helps me stay in good health. Topic 3 Traffic and Transportation Sub-topic 1 Why do we have more and more traffic accidents nowadays ? First of all, the people in China seldom obey the traffic rules when they are in hurry. Those who break the rules are because of convenience. If everyone knows that breaking the traffic rules means hurting both himself/herself and others, they should not risk doing like that. Secondly, the laws related to the traffic accidents are not as clear as a bell. Many people ignore the laws and break it on purpose, like driving after drinking a lot. Without restrict laws, people dare to risk for convenience. Thirdly, many people don't care for his/her life. They don't know how to prevent accidents or how to protect himself/herself. If everyone takes a deep thought before doing one thing, they are not likely getting hurt. Topic 4 Job and career Sub-topic 1 What matters important in career choices? 1. Find your passion What are you passionate about in life? For now, don;t think about a career. Think instead of those things in life that you absolutely love. What is it that you will do - even if you do not get paid doing it? People who do what they love are people who are happy and fulfilled. Going to work every day doing a job you hate is the ultimate punishment. Somehow we've come to believe that your job is not something you can enjoy and that its just something you have to do to earn money. Not true. You can do what you love and earn a good living from it. 2. What are you good at? What are your biggest and best talents? This does not mean that you cannot develop new talents but taking an inventory of all those things that you are already good at can be a great start. Your talents are those things that is just effortless to you. What might seem very hard or even impossible for others just come naturally for you. 3. Get practical Once you know what you love and what you are good at (which usually goes hand in hand) you can start getting more practical. No matter what it is that you love, there is a career for you. Do you love eating ice cream all day? Well, there's a career for that and ice cream testers are very well paid and highly regarded. Your task now is to look for careers that will meet your passions and your talents. It might take a bit of searching but in the end the rewards will be immense. Topic 5 Interpersonal Relationship Sub-topic 1 What is important in ensuring good human relationships? Positive relationships can mean the difference between success or failure in our business, family and personal life. And, communication is the key to these relationships. The more effectively we communicate with others, the more satisfying and successful our relationships will be. 1. Listen - Your communication will be much more effective if you understand the other person's point of view. Restate their position so that they know that you understand. Then, perhaps they will listen to you as well. 2. Translate - We all come from different backgrounds, families, and traditions. A word or phrase can have totally different connotations to different people. Expectations vary based on our experience. Your job is to translate what you are saying so that it can be easily understood by the other person. Make sure your expectations are clear to avoid misunderstandings. Topic 6 Traveling Sub-topic 1: What are the gains and pains of travelling? Please cite your own experiences to illustrate them. Travel is beneficial to us in at least three ways. First, by traveling we can enjoy the beautiful scenery in different places. We will see with our own eyes many places read of in books, and visit some famous cities and scenic spots. Second, we will meet people with different interests and see strange and different things when we travel. We can get ideas of the conditions and customs of other people, taste different foods and local flavours if we like. In this way, we can understand how differently other people live. Third, travel will not only help us to gain knowledge of geography and history and other knowledge, which will arouse our deeplove :for our m0therland, but also will help us keep healthy and make us less narrow-minded. Travel does benefit us both mentally and physically. Topic 7 Love and Marriage Sub-topic 1 What do you think of speed dating and flash marriage? Is this a progress of society or a step backward? It is hard to say it’s a progress of society or a step backward. Speed dating involves men and women meeting in a room and finding out as much as they can about possible partners in three minutes. It's proving very popular with Britain's young people who find that they haven't got the time to meet that special one. At a speed dating event you are given three minutes to talk, one on one, with a member of the opposite sex. Then a bell is rung and you move to another person and start chatting again. By the end of the evening you will have spoken with up to twenty men or women! If, by the end of a conversation, you fancy the person or would like to see them again, you write it down on a card. Then, if the other person also fancies you, the organisers will contact you with their details. But is three minutes long enough to make an impression and work out if you want to see someone again? Research suggests that chemistry can be felt within the first thirty seconds of meeting someone, and that is what speed dating is all about, knowing quickly if you are going to like someone. And what about romance? Is it possible to make a good judgment in such a short time? After all, people say you can't hurry love. However, Britain will soon have its first marriage from a speed date. So, if you are on a mission to find Mr or Miss Right, what have you got to lose? At worst, you still go home on your own. But at best, the person of your dreams could be just three minutes away. Topic 8 Sports Sub-topic 1: How do people benefit from sports? Sports serve as an excellent physical exercise. Those who play sports have a more positive body image than those who do not. Playing sports often involves physical activities like running, jumping and stretching and moreover a constructive expenditure of energy. Playing sports since an early age strengthens the bones and muscles and tones one’s body. Thus sports provide the body with a complete exercise. A constructive expenditure of energy that sports bring out is very helpful in keeping a person happy. Exercise generates happiness molecules in a person’s body, thus contributing to his/her mental well-being. Sports generate a positive energy. Playing sports serves as an excellent exercise, which has a wide variety of health benefits. It reduces blood sugar level and reduces the risk of blood cholesterol. Playing sports decreases the chances of hypertension and several other stress related disorders. Research has revealed that people who play sports regularly can deal with stresses and strains in life in a better manner. Depression, anxiety and other psychological disorders are less probable in people who indulge in sport activities. Topic 9 Housing Sub-topic 1: when choosing your house, what factors will you consider? The first factor that determines which home you buy is the amount of money the bank is willing to loan you and the amount of your savings. Another factor is the amount that you pay on a monthly basis, keeping in mind that there exist other payments in addition to your mortgage mortgage such as property taxes, home insurance, Homeowners Association fee (if you are buying a condo), and home maintenance and repairs. A third factor involves the amount of money you will have in the future. Do you plan to buy another car? Have kids? Send your kids to college? Keep in mind that a person’s income generally increases annually, which means that it will become easier to pay your mortgage. The next factor to consider is the location of the house Topic 10 Past and Future Subtopic 1: What is the thing you cherish most in the “good old days”? Why? Hey guys! I guess most of you were born in the 1980s or in the 1990s.Compared with the present-day society, have you ever felt nostalgic about the good old days? In the good old days, students did not have to bear such heavy burden or attend the extra classes which are quite popular nowadays. The arrangement at weekends were usually concerned with watching cartoons or going for picnics. In the good old days, kids had no idea of what a computer was or whether the Internet was made by a spider. Their recreation were kicking shuttlecock(踢毽 子), hopscotch(跳房子), spinning tops(陀螺),etc. Granted that there was not much "technological element "nin their games, yet they played to their hearts'content.
