Over the years the safety footwear line has gained the most demanding professionals’ confidence and preference. These products have
been proving so successful as to result in a regularly upgraded and expanded range.
WARNINGS
EUROPEAN STANDARDS (EN)
EN ISO 20344: Test methods and general requirements.
EN ISO 20345: Safety footwear with toe caps resistant to shocks up to
200 Joules.
EN ISO 20346: Protective footwear with toe caps resistant to shocks up to
100 Joules.
EN ISO 20347: Occupational footwear, no toe caps required.
EN ISO 20345 The footwear that complies with this norm is marked
with the letter “S” (Safety). The letter “S” is followed by letters and/or
numbers indicating the protection class the footwear belongs to.
SB Minimum requirements: 200 Joule toe cap.
Upper made from split leather or the like.
Minimum upper height.
S1 SB characteristics supplemented with the following:
Antistatic footwear (A).
Energy absorption in the heel region (E).
Closed back. (Low shoes as well)
Antislip UNI EN ISO 20345. Method in accordance with EN 13287
S2 S1 characteristics supplemented with the following:
Waterproof upper, no water penetration for at least 1h (WRU).
S3 S2 characteristics supplemented with the following:
Penetration proof insole or inset (P).
Gripped outsole.
S4 S1 characteristics supplemented with the following:
Hydrocarbon proof outsole (ORO).
S5 S4 characteristics supplemented with the following:
Penetration proof insole or inset (P).
Gripped outsole.
EN ISO 20346 These shoes are basically the same as safety footwear.
However, since they have 100 Joule toe caps, they are marked with the
letter “P” (Protective). Hence they are defined as protective footwear.
They are used in workplace environments requiring no more than 100
Joule operation.
EN ISO 20347 These shoes do not have any protective toe caps and are
marked with the letter “O” (Occupational); hence they are considered
occupational footwear.
SAFETY STANDARDS
HOW TO CHOOSE SAFETY FOOTWEAR
Make sure that the footwear matches the required protection class, according to type and workplace.
Below you will find the European reference standards, including any and all additional specifications.
PRELIMINARY CHECKS AND USE
Before using the shoes, visually check their
general state – that is, the seams, the sole
and the closures –; also make sure that the
shoes match all the specifications on the
label, and, above all, that they are provided
with steel toes and penetration proof steel
midsoles.
MISUSE
Prolonged and/or repeated use:
• in contact with organic agents, herbicides,
pesticides and highly concentrated acids
• at very low or very high temperatures
(below –10 °C and over +70 °C)
• fully dipped into water, mud, mortar and alike
is not recommended.
EXPIRY DATE
SAFETY FOOTWEAR
Because of the numerous factors involved (humidity during storage and structural changes in materials in time), the exact storage life of
the shoe cannot be determined. Generally speaking, footwear made entirely of polyurethane or with polyurethane outsoles has an
expected maximum life of three years. Whereas other types of footwear have a an expected maximum life of five years. Such periods are
applicable to new footwear, packed and stored under controlled conditions – that is, avoiding abrupt changes in temperature and relative
humidity.
