24. asking for change
Shopes near telephone boxes are always being asked for change, and usually refuse to give it. If you need change urgently, and cannot ind anybody to help you, it is good idea to buy a small item, such as a box of matches, and ask for your change to include the required coins.

A: Excause me, but could I trouble you for some change? 对不起, 能麻烦你换些零钱?
B: Let me see. Do you want coppers or silver? 让我看一下, 你要铜币还是银币?
A: I want to make a trunk-call. 我想打个长途电话.
B: You’d better have silver, then.. 那, 你最好要银币.

A: Sorry to trouble you, but have you change for a 50? 对比起, 麻烦, 你能换50便士零钱吗?
B: I’ll have a look. What do you want it for? 我看一看, 你要用来干什么?
A: I have to get a book of stamp. 我要买本邮票.
B: In that case you need silver. 那样的话, 你需要银币.

A: Excause me. I wonder whether you could change 50? 劳驾, 我想你是否有50便士?
B: Let’s see. Coppers or silver? 我们看一下, 铜币还是银币?
A: It’s for a long-distance call. 是用来打长途电话.
B: Will tens do? 10便士, 就可以?

A: I need some cigarettees from this machine. 我想从这太机器里取些香烟.
B: I can let you have some tens, if that’s any good. 如果10便士的能行, 我可以给你几个.
