Are You Happy?
“Are you happy?” It was a show of CCTV during the National Day holiday. The reporters interviewed a few thousands of people from all works of life including collar workers, migrants and scientist and so on. And all of them were asked the same questions, “Are you happy?” and “Do you know the meaning of life?” or something like that. Then many people focus on all kinds of answers of the questions for the sudden and abrupt questions.
In my opinion, the interview is quite impressive that is about the migrant from Qingxu County. The migrant said, “don’t ask me, I’m just a migrant,” before the reporter interviewed him. And then the reporter continued to ask, “Are you happy?” It seems to ask you whether your family name is fu or not if you can speak Chinese. And then the migrant said that his family name is Zeng in the nature of things.
Seemingly the interview is funny. But in my eyes, it reflects something behind the interview. For the migrant, they come from poor areas, contrast to the people live in cities, they feel so humble. It seems that there is a big gap between them. They move some place from some place for living, so they feel nothing but lonely. Once a reporter goes toward him, he feels that the reporter must not interview a migrant for they even don’t share the topic. When the reporter asked if the migrant is happy, the migrant looked so calm. So I believe that really he didn’t hear clearly the question. They wander around for nurturing their families. Even they don’t have extra time to think about such a word “happiness”. So I don’t think they are happy. And maybe the relation between the migrant and the citizen is also a relevant factor that makes the migrant humble. That is to say, does the government give enough concerns about the migrant? for the reporter, they should interview various individuals in the proper way. Even they don’t respond to the migrant’s reaction. I don’t think a reporter shouldn’t care for the feelings of the interviewee.
As the saying goes, “See through the appearance to perceive the essence.” Are we really so happy as the interviewee said in the show of CCTV?
