(A)
Here are six steps to better studying.
Pay attention in class
Do you have trouble paying attention in class? Are you sitting next to a loud
person? Tell your teacher or parents about any problem that is preventing you from
paying attention.
Take good notes
Write down facts that your teacher mentions or writes on the board. Try to use
good handwriting so you can read your notes later. It’s a good idea to keep your
notes organized by subject.
Plan ahead for tests and projects
Waiting until Thursday night to study for Friday’s test will make it hard to
do your best. One of the best ways to make sure that doesn’t happen is to plan ahead.
Write down your test dates. You can then plan how much to do after school each day,
and how much time to spend on each topic.
Break it up
When there’s a lot to study, it can help to break things into several parts.
Let’s say you have a spelling test on 20 words. Instead of thinking about all of
the words at once, try breaking them down into five-word groups and work on one or
two different groups each night.
Ask for help
You can’t study effectively if you don’t understand the material. Be sure to
ask your teacher for help. If you’re at home when the confusion occurs, your morn
or dad might be able to help.
Sleep tight
So the test is tomorrow and you’ve followed your study plan—but suddenly you
can’t remember anything! Don’t panic. Your brain needs time to digest all the
information you’ve given it. Try to get a good night’s sleep and you’ll be surprised
by what comes back to you in the morning.
44.We know from the passage that a loud person is .
A.a student who always answers questions loudly in class
B.someone who likes to talk with others in a loud voice
C.a student who likes speaking with others in class
D.a person who makes a lot of noise in public places
45.According to the author, which of the following is an effective studying
method?
A.Don’t try to review everything you have learned in one go.
B.Try to review what you’ve learned in one go.
C.To read all your notes the night before the test.
D.Try to remember everything on the first try.
46.If you don’t understand what you have learnt, you can .
A.read your notes over and over again
B.turn to people around you for help
C.put aside the material for later review

On my daily visits to the Hauman Park, I would always see a little boy sitting
with a basket of fresh floral garlands (花环). From six in the morning until nine
at night, he would try his best to sell his garlands. I often went to the park and
each time he saw me, the boy would beg me to buy a garland. But somehow I never did.
Even when I came out, he would follow me to my ear, begging me to buy one at least.
I went back to the park recently after staying away for some months. The boy
was there, seated exactly as before. I tried to avoid his gaze, thinking that he
would follow me. But he didn’t move. I went inside the park and came back. But he
made no effort to sell his garlands. I thought he was angry or just showing his own
self-respect. He looked at me but didn’t speak. This was strange. I gathered my
courage and asked,“Why are you not asking me to buy your garlands?”
He said,“Why should I ask? You are rich but you can’t spend five dollars on
a garland. Anyway now I am not so desperate. My sister was suffering from cancer
and I had to work to buy her medicine. My father had left us. My mother makes the
garlands and I sell them. We used the money for my sister’s medicine. But she passed
away two months ago. You can now take one for free.”

A.look for his parents B.wait for someone who was rich
C.see one of his best friends D.make some money by selling garlands

50.The underlined word“gaze”is closest in meaning to .
A.view B.hate C.look D.answer
51.The author was regretful mainly because he .
A.had taken a garland for free B.hadn’t tried to help the boy
C.had never seen the boys’sister D.had been angry with the boy

I am an advocate of my son. I made it my duty to inform all of his high school
teachers and headmasters that our family goal was for him to attend college. When
you, the parent, inform a teacher that the family has high expectations for your
child, then that teacher takes on a whole different attitude to him or her.
When Chris started high school, I started my habit of keeping a record of his
absences and lateness for school on my calendar at home. In a way, it pleased him
that I cared so much.
One term in his junior year, he came home with a report card that showed three
times as many days as absence from school as I had on my calendar. When I asked him

about it, he looked at the report card and his eyes got very wide.
“That must be a mistake, Mom,”he said.“Maybe there was an error in the
computer.” He told me that he had not been staying away from school.
While I was prepared to believe him, I also needed to check with the school to
make sure. The next morning, I went with Chris before school to the headmaster’
s office and showed him the report card with the number of absences. He spoke up
immediately.
“Oh, Ms, Chandler, I’m so sorry. We are planning to inform all the parents that
there was a glitch in the reporting of the days absent for all the kids. I don’
t think any of them went out correct. Chris was here when he says he was here.”
I was relieved that everything was all right, and as I left his office the
headmaster said to me,“Hundreds of report cards went out with the wrong number
of absences, but you’re the only parent who has called or stopped in to check up
on it.”
52.Why did the author go to her son’s school with the report card?
A.To show her record. B.To find out the truth.
C.To correct the mistake. D.To prove Chris was a liar(说谎者).
53.The underlined word“glitch”in paragraph 6 can be best replaced by“ ”.
A.problem B.correction C.statement D.change
54.It can be inferred from the passage that the author .
A.changed all teachers’attitudes to her son
B.had high expectations for her son’s school
C.was dissatisfied with her son’s behavior
D.was a responsible mother

During the Renaissance, new ideas and values gradually replaced those held in
the Middle Ages. People began to concentrate less on religious themes and 1 a more
humanistic attitude to life. 2 painters returned to classical Roman and Greek
ideas about art. They tried to paint people and nature as they really were. Rich
people wanted to possess their own paintings, 3 they could decorate their superb
palaces and great houses. They paid famous artists to paint pictures of themselves,
their houses and possessions 4 their activities and achievements.
One of the most important 5 during this period was how to draw things in
perspective. This technique was first used by Masaccio in 1428. 6 people first
saw his paintings, they were convinced that they were looking through a hole in a
wall at a real scene. If the rules of perspective had not been discovered, no one
would have been able to 7 such realistic pictures. 8 , oil paints were also
developed at this time, which made the colors 9 in paintings look richer and deeper.
10 the new paints and the new technique, we would not be able to see the many great
masterpieces for which this period is famous.

6. 7. 8. 9. 10.
三、阅读短文,根据短文内容回答问题。(答案不多于 3 个词)(共 5 小题,5 分)
Children are natural poets. Having a love of rhymes and words, our Grand Prize
Poetry Competition is no exception. A gifted writer, ten-year-old Connie Li
describes the beauty of spring as it wakes from a long winter’s sleep in her poem
“Spring Has Come.”
Learning that she was a finalist in the Rhyme Time Poetry Competition, the fifth grader
was excited. She wrote the prize-winning poem during a class at her school in
California.“My teacher is quite interested in writing! Whenever we finish writing
something, her face always shines brightly,”she said.
“When I entered the poem, I never imagined that I’d win. I was just expecting
to see my poem in the magazine,”said Connie.“Every time I start a poem, I become
absorbed in it and look forward to completing it.”
The gifted youngster has many interests—artistic and athletic.“My favorite thing
is art competitions. I enjoy drawing very much,” said Connie.“I like art, reading
books, and skiing. I like Social Studies because I find it very interesting.”
Connie recently came out first in her school’s spelling competition and now looks
forward to achieving another dream.“My New Year’s resolve is to go to the Scripps
National Spelling Bee,” said the young student.“I really hope I make it.”
Her teachers are behind her.“She is really advanced in her writing and does
better than all of her classmates,”said her teacher. Considering her talent, drive
and determination, Connie is certainly a competitor in whatever activity she takes
part in.
