How
we beat
corrosion
Backed by 20 years of experience, we are
continuously working on ways and means to ensure
and maintain the integrity of our clients’ facilities.
Our projects for corrosion engineering include
materials selection counselling, failure analysis,
inspection management and cathodic protection
design. Unsatisfi ed with general conclusions or
recommondations for further investigation, we
provide clear-cut, practical solutions.
Material selection reports, and long-term inspection
management contracts, are undertaken for oil and
gas companies and other industries. Our experience
covers marine corrosion, oil and gas corrosion,
process industry and civil works.
Oil and gas production, industries and civil works
engage our services for inspection management
purposes. In the user phase, corrosion is the main
degradation mechanism which implies that materials
and corrosion knowledge is of vital importance.
MARINE AND UPSTREAM OIL AND GAS
Growing human activity at sea and on seashores
leads to demand for better materials performance
in sea and brackish water. A new project for oil and
gas production requires an expert materials selection
report based on parameters such as CO2 and H2S
content. Excellent options for materials selection
in marine conditions are available. They range from
steel with CP to coatings and plastics to stainless
steels, copper alloys and titanium, depending on
requirements. Corrodium uses expert models with an
extensive database to ensure the most effi cient, most
durable and most economic materials performance for
the application involved.
In the user phase, our expertise is available to
maintain asset integrity, optimizing the inspection
intervals in accordance with the RBI philosophy.
The defi nition of corrosion rates and degradation
mechanisms related to carbon dioxide (CO2 corrosion)
and hydrogen sulphide (H2S corrosion and sulphide
cracking) are examples of this. Seawater corrosion
and injection water are major issues for oil and gas
production as well.
CORROSION MONITORING
Inspection management and corrosion control are
optimized by monitoring. Corrodium works with
electrical resistance technology, widely used for oil
and gas production for more than 50 years. With
its long-term proven record, this type of corrosion
monitoring is very reliable and certifi ed for pressure
equipment (PED) and electrical integrity (ATEX). We
supply and commission such equipment, but more
important, also guarantee the best data quality and
results by our long-term experience in the optimal
use of such probes. The results of the probes, which
nowadays mostly operate online to the DCS system
(process computer), are translated to direct actions,
such as an inhibitor injection, a process change or
a change in the inspection interval. We also provide
and work with other types of probes, such as biofi lm
monitoring probes and electrochemical corrosion
probes (LPR, E-logi).

Wellhead Monitoring
Founded in 1989, we are specialists in corrosion management and the optimization of materials performance.
Our services include:
• Corrosion engineering and materials selection
• Inspection management
• Failure analysis
• Development of actively controlled sacrifi cial anodes
• Corrosion monitoring and other instrumentation
Our clients are involved in oil and gas production, the process and food industries, as well as public services.
We comply with the ISO 9001 standard and the VCA regulations on safety, health and the environment.
Corrodium has been consulted as an expert witness in several legal cases. We have a fully equipped in-house
laboratory for investigations involving metallography, electron microscopy, EDX analysis and corrosion testing
according to the various ASTM, NACE and ISO standards. Corrodium is a member of NACE (National Association
of Corrosion Engineers). Combining materials and corrosion expertise with continuous innovations based on
practical experience, Corrodium ensures the optimum durability and effi ciency of your facilities.

CATHODIC PROTECTION
AND GALVANIC CORROSION
The principles of cathodic protection are similar
to those of galvanic corrosion. Corrodium has
developed a computer model for cathodic
protection and the elimination of galvanic
corrosion, based on international design
standards. The cathodic protection of special
alloys, such as stainless steels, has been the
object of our intense research and development.
This has resulted in sacrifi cial anodes controlled
by active circuit boards (intelligent anodes).
Such anodes react on the alternating resistivity
of water due to tidal infl uences in coastal areas.
Pulsanodes, a spin-off of the intelligent anodes,
create a pulse in order to reduce bio fouling,
establishing simultaneously the correct level of
corrosion protection. Further innovations are
now being developed in the Marine Materials
Laboratory and tested in various seawater and
brackish water harbours.
STAINLESS STEELS AND EXOTIC ALLOYS
Stainless steel is an excellent material with
an almost infi nite lifetime. It is vital, however,
that the materials best suited for the purpose
are selected and that the materials are
prepared and treated in the proper way. A lot
of Corrodium’s failure analysis is connected
with stainless steels and exotic alloys such
as nickel base and titanium. Some corrosion
problems with stainless steels are industry-
specifi c, e.g. ‘rouging’ problems in ultra high
purity water in the pharmaceutical industry,
free iron contamination in the building industry,
stress corrosion cracking in swimming pools or
the condensation of organic acids in distillation
columns.
Corrodium has introduced several innovations
for the improved performance of stainless
steels, such as the ‘Vapour Test’ for accurate
and fast identifi cation of iron on stainless steel
surfaces, the Oxilyser for passivity testing and
the MolyTester for rapid alloy identifi cation.
