The Ring of the Nibelung 尼伯龙根的指环 Narrator: In the old times of Germany, there was a legend about the ring of the Nibelung. The gold ring had been cursed with the curse of love. The one who possessed it would lose his love and be destroyed. A dragon stole it but was killed by a strong and brave blacksmith called Siegfried. Ignoring the warning that it would be deadly to him, Siegfried took the ring from the dragon’s cave. Later, he met and defeated Brunhild, the Queen of Iceland. Narrator: Siegfried helped Gunther, the king of Burgund fight back the invasion from another country and found out he was the king of Xanten. They invited Siegfried to the castle to thank him. This is a kind of magic powder; the one who drinks it would forget his former lover. Then he will fall love with you. You have done the kingdom of Burgund a great service. Would you make it for me again sometime? (好酒，下次再调一杯给我喝?) Kienmhild: Of course, I will. But I want to ask you something. (没问题，但是有些事我想问你) Siegfried: What, my lady?（什么事，我的公主？） Kienmhild: You just told me that your heart had already pledged to someone…（你刚才告诉我你已心有所属……） Siegfried: So that was you. I love you. Only the one who can defeat her can marry her. Till now, no one has proved strong enough to defeat her.(她规定追求者得先击败她，但至今没人击败过她。) Siegfried: Who is this woman?（这个女人是谁？） Gunther: Her name is Brunhild, queen of Iceland. （冰岛女王布鲁恩希尔特。） Siegfried: Brunhild…（布鲁恩希尔特……） Gunther: Siegfried, she’s the woman I wish to marry. Brunhild was thinking of her love, worrying about Siegfried not coming to her. (Outside Brunhild’s castle, Siegfried was in the form of Gunther.) Gunther: I am Siegfried, with the magic helmet, I am king Cunther now, I will win him the queen.（我是齐格弗里德，现在，戴上这个魔盔，我就是国王龚特，我将为他赢取女王） (Enters the castle) Gunther: My great queen, I am king Gunther of Burgund.（尊贵的女王陛下，我是勃艮的国王龚特） Brunhild: Welcome to my country, I admire your courage to challenge me.（欢迎你的到来，我欣赏你前来挑战的勇气） Gunther: I come here to seek your hand in marriage. （我是来向你求婚的。） Brunhild: If you win I will wed you, if I win it swill cost you your life.（若你赢了，我会嫁给你，如我赢了，就留下你的项上人头。） Gunther: If I fail to make you my wife, I will die gladly.（若不能娶你为妻，我死不足惜。） Brunhild: The contest begins right now.（决斗现在就开始） (The fight began; Gunther defeated her) Brunhild: How can this be possible? Almighty gods, give me power. Oh, the ring, help me!（这怎么可能呢，万能的主啊，赐我力量吧。哦，指环，救救我吧。） Gunther: Now you are mine, as well as your ring.（现在你，还有指环都是我的了。） Brunhild: Bow to my future husband, the king of Burgund, now the king of Iceland.（向我未来的夫婿致敬，他，勃艮之王，现在也是冰岛之王了。） 第三幕Act 3 The castle of Burgund Narrator: They came back to Burgund. Siegfried put off the helmet and changed back to his form and came to his Guntrue. The real Gunther came to address Brunhild.（他们回到了勃艮，齐格弗里德摘下魔盔，走向了格鲁特尼。龚特迎上去，欢迎女王的到来。） Gunther: People of Burgund, your queen!（勃艮人民，这是你们的女王！） Gunther: I present my sister, Kienmhild.（这是我妹妹，古特鲁尼。） Kienmhild: I will be sister to you as well.（我也会当你的好妹妹的。） (Seated back to the seats, enjoying the dance by the maids, then Siegfried and Kienmhild and the king and the queen all dance.) （Dance ends, the king and queen exit, left Sigfrid and the princess) Siegfried: (showing the ring to the princess) This is the symbol of love, this is for you.（这是我们的爱的见证，送给你。） Kienmhild: oh, my darling, how sweet you are!（哦，亲爱的，你是多么的讨人欢心啊） (Both exit. Lights gone.) First enters Siegfried, thinking and viewing. Then enters Brunhild.) Siegfried: Queen Brunhild, can I help you?（布鲁恩希尔特女王，有什么事吗？） Brunhild: I waited for you, as I said I would. Siegfried, what happened?（我遵守承诺，痴痴的等你，齐格弗里德，发生什么了？） Siegfried: Sorry. I don’t know what you are talking about.（对不起，我不知道你在说什么） Brunhild: Who should I ask? Why you loved me then but you don’t love me now? （我该去问谁，为何你的爱烟消云散？） Siegfried: I didn’t.（我没有爱过你。） Brunhild: Don’t lie to me. How come your husband has it?”（你在撒谎，是国王龚特从我这拿走的，怎么会到了你丈夫那里） Kienmhild: Maybe because that was my husband who conquered you in Iceland.（也许是因为在冰岛打败你的就是我的丈夫。） Brunhild: How dare you! You insult queen of Burgund with such a lie in front of so many people?（放肆，你居然在大庭广众下用这种谎言侮辱勃艮的王后。） Kienmhild: No, this is the very truth. My brother cheated you. He can never defeat you. She was so hurt that she wanted to take her revenge. I was so jealous. It’s only because I love Sigred so much that I cannot bear to know he was with you in Iceland.（我很抱歉，我不该在大庭广众之前那样侮辱你。我当时醋意攻心，因为我太爱齐格弗里德了，一想到他和你在一起在冰岛我就受不了。） Brunhild: (looking at the ring) Once I loved a man, I loved the whole world, because he was in it. Long we were parted, but when he came back, his heart had been wiped clean, he does not love me anymore. You have done me no great harm.（你在说什么？你又没害过我） Kienmhild: Once I loved a man who did not love me. I could not bear it for the world was an empty place without him. I gave that man a kind of magic wine to drink so he could forget his former lover and fall in love with me. I had no idea that was you. It was Hargen’s trick, Siegfried knew nothing. That is my great sin to you, and to him.（曾经我爱过一个不爱我的人，没有他的世界如此空虚，以致我无法忍受。于是我给了那人一杯有魔力的酒，借这杯酒原想让他忘记旧爱而爱上我，可我不知道他爱的人就是你。都是哈根搞的鬼，齐格弗里德根本不知情。这是我对你，对他所犯下的罪孽。） (Brunhild was shocked… Maid: My queen, the dragon-slayer is dying…（女王陛下，齐格弗里德要死了） (Then she heard the voice of Sigred, first crying out of pain, and then calling “Brunhild…”) Brunhild: No, Siegfried, my love… （不，齐格弗里德，我的爱……） (Siegfried crawled back to the stage, calling “Brunhild”. Kienmhild first saw Siegfried falling down on the ground, dead. She threw herself onto the body of Siegfried, while Brunhild shouts to the sky, falingl on her knees. Then the king and Hagen enter.) Gunther: What happened? 发生了什么事？ Kienmhild: See it yourself. Murderer…你自己明白，凶手！ Gunther: How could you accuse me? 你怎么能够血口喷人呢？ Kienmhild: You and Hagen always want that ring. For the ring, you can do anything!（你和哈根对那枚戒指早怀不轨，为了戒指，你还有什么做不出来！） Hagen: Where is the ring?（戒指在哪里？） Brunhild: So it’s all about the ring, I don’t want it any more! You take it. (Throwing the ring, two men rushed to it) （都是这个戒指，我不想要它了，你们拿去!） Gunther: You always wanted the gold yourself, that’s why you killed him.（你想独吞黄金，所以才会杀了他） Hagen: We did it together.（我们一起谋划的！） Gunther: You’ll never have the gold.（你永远别想拿到黄金！） Hagen: All the gold belongs to me.（那些黄金是我的！） Gunther: Let’s see it.（那就让我们走着瞧！） (Two men fight and both die.) Kienmhild: oh, brother.（哦，哥哥） Brunhild: (Taking the sward) May our love return in our death.（愿我们爱在来世……） (She kills herself.) Kienmhild: (picking up the ring) It’s all because of the ring.
