英国大学信息网站(The Complete University Guide)联合英国《独立报》(The Independent)对英国大学进行了一项排名调查。该调查通过对“学生满意度”、“研究能力评估”、“入学标准”、“学术经费”以及“毕业生发展前景”等多个方面进行了详细评分,从而得出不同学科的大学分类排名。

在刚出版的《TIMES》2011英国大学排名中,牛津大学今年已经第九次蝉联该排行榜的榜首,再一次把老对手剑桥大学甩在身后,尽管剑桥大学在不少单项学科的得分均高于牛津。此次所有上榜大学都是罗素集团(Russell Group)或侧重研究的大学组织1994集团(1994 Group)的成员。
2011英国大学排名对总共113所大学院校的评分分别参考了8项指标,包括学生满意度、科研质量和学位成果等。
牛津大学胜出的原因是具有高水平的教职员工团队、更突出的学生毕业前景、大比例的博士学位以及能够负担学生设施方面更高的开支。无论如何,剑桥大学仍然保持更高水平的研究纪录,入学标准和竞争指数。在62项分类评分中取得了31项第一,牛津大学则取得了12项第一。而苏塞克斯大学则比去年上升了14位,跃升至今年综合排名的第21位。
