But a recent survey has showed that such ambitions lack the required support and remain just that—dreams. The Shanghai Municipal Employment Promotion Centre poll of 1,276 graduates in several universities and colleges in the city, released last Friday, showed 59.78 percent of respondents considered the possibility of setting up a company or at least a small store. “But they just stop at the …thinking stage?,” it stated. Respondents put the top reasons for not going it alone down to a shortage of investment and a lack of business opportunity. They also listed lack of business experience and social networks, the need for advanced study and objections from family members as factors that stood in their way. More than 90 percent of the interviewees said they would rather take up a job after graduating and then consider starting their own business two or three years down the road. Guo Bin, a senior student in Shanghai International Studies University majoring in English, decided he wanted to be his own boss last year. But he is looking for a job first. “If I fail to find a satisfying job, I would like to establish a company in exhibition services,” Guo said. The Shanghai native has some relatives working in a local printing plant. With their help, Guo hopes to produce exhibition brochures at a relatively low price. He is also confident that his English language skills can help him do well in the industry. “Social networking is an important factor leading to business success,” Guo said. Guo said that the shortage of graduate jobs is the main reason driving more university students to set up a business right after their graduation. Jiang said the university sets up a business guide team made of government officials and prof essionals. They regularly give training courses to students who show an interest in having their own business. The parents of university graduates are more willing to help their c hildren start up alone. The survey showed “Once you win the support of your family, you have won half the battle,” Guo added. 31.Which of the following can be the best title? D.Their family members' objections. 33.In the view of Guo Bin, what is the key factor that makes fresh graduates dream of being boss soon after graduation? A.Their family don't support them. B.Their social networking is not good. C.There are not enough graduate jobs. D.They want to achieve greater success. 34.Who is this article mostly intended for? A.The parents whose child will graduate from university soon. B.Those who will graduate from university. C.Those who want to be boss. D.The officials who work in the government. B There is more and more worry about the growing threat of globalization, which is accompanied by those warnings that the rich pattern of local life is being undermined(破坏), and many dialects and traditions are becoming extinct. But stop and think for a moment about the many positive aspects that globalization is bringing. Read on and you are sure to feel comforted, ready to face the global future. Consider the Internet, that good example of our shrinking world. Leaving aside the worries about political extremism, even the most narrow-minded must admit that the net offers a lot of benefits, not just in terms of education, the sector(部分)for which it was originally designed, but more importantly on a global level, the spread of news and comment. It will be increasingly difficult for politicians to misinform the public, as the oppressed(被压迫的)will not only find support and comfort, but also be able to organise themselves more effectively. MTV is another global provider that is often criticized for imposing(强加)popular culture on the unsuspecting millions around the world. Yet the viewers' judgment on MTV is undoubtedly positive; it is regarded as necessary by most of the global teenage generation who watch it, a vital part of growing up. And in the final analysis, what harm can a few songs and videos cause? Is the world dominance(绝对优势)of brands like Nike and Coca-cola so bad for us, when all is said and done? Sportswear and soft drinks are harmless products when compared to the many other things that have been globally available for a longer period of time—heroin and cocaine, for example. In any case, just because Nike shoes and Coke cans are for sale, it doesn't mean you have to buy them—even globalization cannot take away people's free will. Critics of globalization can stop presenting their doom and gloom statements. Life goes on, and has more to offer for many citizens of the world than it did for their parents' generation. 35.Some people feel sad about globalization because they believe it will ________. A.affect the rich local life B.bring threat to the world peace C.change their present difficult lifestyle D.increase the size of people speaking dialects 36.Internet was originally designed ________. A.to spread news and comment B.to get support and comfort C.to organise the oppressed more effectively D.to promote education 37.Which of the following is true according to the passage? A.The Internet makes people worried about political extremism. B.Nike and Coca-cola shouldn't have caused so much worry. C. All of the global teenage generation think that MTV is a necessary and important part for their growing up. D. Sportswear and soft drinks cannot be compared with drug. 38.Which of the following could be the best title of the passage? A.Globalization is standardization(标准化) B.Globalization: don't worry, be happy C.Globalization: like it or change it D.Globalization brings equality 课时作业(八) Ⅰ.1.C考查冠词。 take up“开始从事”;catch on“流行起来”;carry out“完成,履行”;make for“走向,有利于”。 see“看到”;notice“注意”;observe“观察”; watch“注视,观看(活动的物体)”。 break out 表示“突然发生,爆发”;break up表示“崩溃,分离,解散,结束”;break in表示“闯入”。 7.B as well as表示“以及,加上”。 stand for“代表”;stand by“坚持(某种)说法”;base sth.on sth.“以某事为依据”;rely on“依靠”。 A “英雄所见略同”;B“三个臭皮匠赛过诸葛亮”; C“一鸟在手胜于二鸟在林”;D“三思而后行”。 15.A A意为“不管,不顾”;B意为“由于”;C、D均意为“依靠”。 方向”用in the direction of。 18.A when引导定语从句。 19.B at the same time意为“同时”。 21.B whether和or not可以连用;if不能和or not连用。 29.D考查as…as结构。 30.D that指代the body language。 There are not enough graduate jobs。 36.D从第二段第二句话后面not just in terms of education, the sector(部分)for which it was originally designed可知因特网最初的目的是为了促进教育。 37.B排除法。从第二段“It will be increasingly difficult for politi cians to misinform the public, as the oppressed(被压迫的)will not only find support and comfort, but also be able to organise themselves more effectively.” C项错在all of the global teenage generation与原文不符合。
