I中国政府送给联合国的两件礼品—— <长城>艺术挂毯和象牙雕刻的<成昆铁 路>赠送仪式在联合国总部休息厅隆重举行. .移天.展现在人们面前的是一幅宽十米.高五 米的大型挂毯.它以中国古代的伟大建筑,建 造于公元前五世纪全长约6.700公里的万里 长城为主题.这幅雄伟壮丽的挂毯.遥遥望去 千山万岭.气势磅礴长城内外阳光灿烂树 木郁郁葱葱一派朝气蓬勃.欣欣向荣的景象. 前来参观<长城>挂毯的各国代和参观 者.从早到晚.络绎不绝.它像中国人民的友 好使者一样博得世界各国朋友的赞誉和好 评.难怪当时的联合国秘书长赞誉道:今天 的盛况是前所未有的.<长城>挂毯色彩新颖 从会场的沉闷气氛中走出来到此休息.可以 使人感到清醒.产生新的思想. 人们不禁要问.这<长城>挂毯是怎样织 出来的呢7 那是1970年.中国在联合国的合法权利 被恢复以后.我国政府就考虑向联合国总部 璃送能反映新中国新面貌的礼品.1974年5 月25日天津地毯二厂和上海地毯厂同时接受 了试制挂毯的任务. 搞好绘图设计是第一关.天津成立了以 李临潘为组长的三结合"设计小组,在创作 过程中.他们到八达岭参观和写生.他们坚持 创新.尽可能去实践用完美的艺术形式.把中 外的绘画艺术同中国传统的织毯工艺结合起 来. 染线,配线是第二关.根据设计要求.需 要248种色线.为了保证不出色差.染线工人 冒着高温奋战在染缸前.他们先后试验小样 1288个.还进行了色牢度和防蛀处理. 织毯是第三关.为了保证时间和质量.15 个织毯能工巧匠像战斗的集体一样.每天坚 持工作十个小时.在织毯过程中.他们对于一 草一木一砖一瓦一石都一丝不苟的精心织作. 在设计和织作过程中.上海和天津完成 是一项共同的任务.经过严格审查.最后选 币天津地毯二厂织作的<长城)挂毯赠予联合 国总部. ctober7th,1974 wasanunusualday, onwhichapresen— tationceremonyoftwogifts-"The GreatWall''arttapestryand "Chengdou—KunmingRailway'' ivorycarvingdonatingtotheUN byChinesegovernmentwas grandlyheldatthedelegation loungeoftheUNheadquarters. Thefirststepwastomakeagoodjobofdesign. A''threeinone''designinggroupheadedbyLi LinpanwassetupinTianjin.Intheprocessofde— signingtheypaidavisittoBaDaLing(asectionof theGreatWallnearBeijing,whichwasatourist attraction)andmadeasketchoftheGreatWal1.They stucktotheprincipleofblazingnewtrailsand adoptedaperfectartform.triedtIleirbesttointe— gratethedrawingartofChinaandforeigncountries withtheweavingcraftsmanshipofChinesetradition. Thesecondstepwasthread—dyeingandcolor- matching.Inthelightoftherequirementofthe design,itrequired248kindsofcoloredthread.In ordertoavoidanyoffcolor,theworkersinspiteof hightemperatureworkedstrenuouslyinfrontofdye vats.111eymadeexperimentalsmallsamplestotal— ing1,288piecessuccessively,andtreatmentwas giventocolorfastnessandmothrepellency. Thethirdstepwasweaving.Inordertoensure qualityandfinishthetaskintime,15skilfulcrafts— menworkedfortenhourseverydaywithconscien— tiousthoroughness. Intheprocessofdesigningandweaving,the factoriesbothinShanghaiandTianjinaccomplished aco~ontask.However,afterstrictexamination "THEGREATWALL"tapestrymanufacturedby TianjinNo.2CarpetFactorywasfinallyselectedas agifttotheUNheadquarters.
