Honorable judges, ladies and gentlemen, good afternoon! It’s my greatest pleasure to be here and give you all my speech. Today, my topic is “What is education?” In my opinion, “Education is that helping others realize their dreams can make our dreams come true.” First, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Dai Zongguo. I graduated from Yuxi Teachers’ College and majored in English. Now I am an English teacher at Shuitang middle school. I’d like to share some of my teaching experiences. When I went there, saw the children and the facilities(设备) in 2003, I was very upset. I also believe teaching middle school students in a poor mountain village may not sound like fun to you. However it changed my life. I was once a poor teacher of English, and it was my biggest headache and trouble-maker. I got sick and tired of learning boring grammar rules and lifeless words. But through hard work in practicing speaking English and breaking away from the traditional grammar games, I found myself a totally different and exciting new world. Not only did my students pass every exam very easily with high marks, but more importantly, I began to use. Now I definitely believe giving is 1 receiving and teaching is learning. In a word, “Helping others has changed my life.” I love education, I love my job. I love being an English teacher. Many people think education is boring. Because education is equal to do the boring jobs over and over again, but I don’t think so. I think a genius is a person who repeats the most times. Of course, I think success is equal to do the simple jobs over and over again. And I believe it. I will hold on to my dreams until they come true.
