How many hours is it open every day? A. Seven. B. Eight. C. Ten. D. Fourteen. 50. Which is NOT on sale according to the advertisement? A. Oranges. B. Cheese. C. Pizza. D. Apples. B What are emotions? As far as we know, human beings have always had emotions. Poets write about them, singers sing about them, and lovers and friends talk about them. We know that we can ‘control’ emotions, ‘express’ emotions and ‘feel’ emotions. Is it possible that we can smell emotions? Are we able, like some animals, to smell fear? Sometimes you can see what emotions a person is feeling. When people are happy, they smile; when they are sad, they might cry; when they are angry, their faces might turn red; when they are feeling shy, they might sweat(出汗). These are all physical reactions(反应), so can we say that emotions are physical reactions to something in our lives? The problem is that emotions don’t always include physical reactions that we can see. Some people are good at hiding their emotions, and different people can have different physical reactions to the same emotion. Some people’s faces, for example, go white when they are angry and some people’s faces turn red. Some people go quiet when they are angry and some people shout. Sometimes there is a physical reaction that we can’t see. For example, a person might be nervous and feel sick inside, but other people might not be able to see that. We might be able to see or smell emotions, but we can’t touch them. Can we describe them? In one way we can describe emotions. Everybody has some idea what ‘happy’ and ‘sad’ mean. But in another way it is difficult to describe emotions. Is the way you ‘love’ your pet, your family, you friend, or your husband and wife the same? I always think it is strange in English that we often write ‘love’ at the bottom of a Christmas card or a letter to a relative we hardly know or hardly ever see. We might write ‘love’ at the bottom of a letter to someone of the opposite sex(性别)who is just a friend, but we wouldn’t write ‘love’ at the bottom of a letter to somebody of the same sex even if we know that friend much better. Some people say that emotions are just a chemical reaction, but I don’t want to believe that. I don’t know what they are, but life would be boring without them. 51. According to the passage, because you can ‘express’ emotions, _________ A. your face might turn red when you feel shy. B. you might know it when you’re in danger. C. you might smile when you’re happy. D. you are good at hiding your emotions. 52. Which reaction is NOT mentioned when people are angry? A. Their faces turn white or red. B. They don’t seem to like to talk to others. C. They often talk to people in a loud voice. D. They write to their friends or relatives. 53. In the writer’s opinion, what is ‘emotion’? A. It’s hard to say what it is. B. It is just a chemical reaction. C. It’s a physical reaction to something in our lives. D. It can be controlled, felt, expressed and known easily. C The oil resources which are left will not last very long. This means that all vehicles such as cars, trains, buses, planes and ships that need oil to work will not be able to run. So it will be necessary to develop a new method of transport which doesn’t use oil. Electric vehicles are one possibility. In England, most families have at least one car and this car is used every day. It could be that only one person in the family drives the can to work or for shopping. The number of cars on the road which are almost empty perhaps helps to explain why the oil is used up so quickly. The family car is a very useful form of transport but it is also a great waste of energy, especially if it is compared with buses or trains which use less petrol per person than a car. A car traveling at 80 kilometers an hour uses only half as much petrol as a car which is traveling at 120 kilometers an hour. Clearly, it would be better if there were fewer cars on the road and more speed limits so that the oil which is left will last as long as possible. About 25% of England’s total consumption(消耗) of energy is domestic —it is used only in the home. Just over 20% is used for transport. Most of the energy is used in industry. It is difficult to suggest any possible energy conservation(保护) in industry because many of the suggestions would mean that some people would lose their jobs. It is important that industry produces the same amount of products using the same amount of workers. Clearly, conservation is not gong to be the answer to be energy problem. The most it can do is to give more time for a better method to be found. The more time we have to develop new sources of energy, the better it is because there is still a lot of work to be done in order to find suitable, safe methods of producing energy. 54. What does the word “domestic” mean in paragraph two? A. Producing energy. B. Fast driving. C. On the road. D. For family use. 55. Why will all vehicles that need oil to work not be able to run? A. Oil resources which are left will be used up soon. B. A new system of transport will be developed. C. They will be replaced by electric vehicles. D. They waste a lot of energy. 56. Which is true according to the passage? A. A car running at 80 km an hour uses more oil than 120 km an hour. B. Family cars can save much more energy than buses and trains. C. It is possible for English people to develop vehicles. D. Fewer cars on the road will help the oil last longer. 57. What is a better way to solve the energy problem? A. Factories should produce less. B. Vehicles mustn’t go at a high speed. C. New sources of energy should be found and developed. D. We should cut down the number of family cars on the road. D Honesty comes in many forms. First there’s self-honesty. Is what people see the real article or do you appear through smoke and mirrors? I find that if I try to be something I’m not, I feel unsure of myself and take out a part from my PBA (personal bank account). I love how singer Judy Garland put it, “Always be a first- class version(版本)of yourself, instead of a second- class version of somebody else.” Then there’s honesty in our actions. Are you honest at school, with your parents, and with your boss? If you’ve ever been dishonest, I think we all have. Try being honest, and notice how well it makes you feel. Remember, you can’t do wrong and feel right. This story by Jeff is a good example of that: In my second year of study, there were three kids in my math class who didn’t do well. I was really good at it. I would charge them three dollars for each test that I helped them pass. I’d write on a little piece of paper all the right answers, and hand them off. At first I felt like I was making money, kind of a nice job. I wasn’t thinking about how it could hurt all of us. After a while I realized I shouldn’t do that anymore, because I wasn’t really helping them. They weren’t learning anything, and it would only get harder down the road. Cheating certainly wasn’t helping me. It takes courage to be honest when people all around you are getting away with cheating on tests, lying to their parents, and stealing at work. But, remember, every act of honesty is a deposit(储蓄) into your PBA and will build strength. 58. Which of the following can best explain Judy Garland’s words? A. Be your true self rather than follow others. B. Don’t copy others or you can’t be the first class. C. Make efforts to be the first instead of the second. D. Don’t learn from others unless they’re excellent. 59. What does the author expect to show by Jeff’s story? A. Honesty can be of great help. B. A bad thing can be turned into a good one. C. Helping others cheat can do good to nobody. D. One should realize the wrong in his bad deeds. 60. In the last paragraph the author mainly wants to express________. A. one must be brave to be honest[来源:Zxxk.Com] B. it’s difficult to be honest when others are not C. one should be honest when making a deposit D. honesty in one’s actions can help him in the future 七、阅读短文还原句子。(共8分,每小题2分) 阅读下面的短文,根据其内容,从文后所给的选项中选出能填在横线上的最佳答案。选项中有一项为多余选项。 A. Bob thought his problem was over after he had been one of the dancers in the dancing group. ___62___. Soon, there won’t be any girls in the group.” ___63___. ___64___. So he went to a judge. The judge said it was not a right decision and told the school to let Bob back to the dancing group. 八、阅读与达(共10分,每小题2分) In choosing a friend, one should be very careful. A good friend can help you study. You can have fun together and make each other happy. Sometimes you will meet fair weather friends. They will be with you as long as you have money or luck, but when you are down, they will run away. How do I know when I have found a good friend? I look for certain qualities of character. Above all ease, I look for understanding in a friend. A good friend tries to understand how another person is feeling. He is not quick to judge. Instead, he tries to learn from others. He puts himself in the other person’s place, and he tries to think of ways to be helpful. He is also a good listener. At the same time, however, a good friend is honest. He does not look for faults in others. He notices their good points. In short, a friend will try to understand me and accept me. Another quality of a friend is reliability. I can always depend on my reliable friend. If he tells me he will meet me somewhere at a certain time, I can be sure that he will be there. If I need a favour, he will do his best to help me. If I am in trouble, he will not run away from me. There is a fourth quality that makes a friend special. A special friend is someone with whom we can have fun. We would enjoy our lives, and we would enjoy our friendship. That is why I especialiy like friends who are fun to be with. A good friend likes the same things I like. We share experience and learn from each other. 65. Must people be careful in choosing friends? 66. Will fair weather friends stay with you or run away when you are in trouble? 67.
