英语朗读材料 1 Never Give Up Hope Life doesn't always give us the joys we want. We don't always get our hopes and dreams, and we don't always get our own way. But don't give up hope, because you can make a difference one situation and one person at a time. Look for the beauty around you--in nature, in others, in yourself--and believe in the love of friends, family, and humankind. You can find love in a smile or a helping hand, in a thoughtful gesture ['d?est??] or a kind word. It is all around, if you just look for it. Give love, for in giving it you will find the power in life along with the joy, happiness, patience and understanding. Believe in the goodness of others and remember that anger and depression can be countered by love and hope. Even when you feel as though there isn't a lot you can do to change unhappiness or problems, you can always do a little--and a little at a time eventually [?'vent???l?] makes a big difference. Hope is always available [?'ve?l?b(?)l] to us. When we feel defeated, we need only take a deep breath and say, "Yes," and hope will reappear [ri??'p??]. 2 My Dream Everyone has a lot of dreams. Some people want to be rich, dreaming of becoming millionaires [m?lj?'ne?] overnight. Others want to be famous, dreaming of suddenly jumping to great fame. I have a lot of dreams, too. When I was a young girl, I dreamed of becoming a scientist like Hua Iuogen in future. However, I knew very well that I could not succeed without painstaking ['pe?nzte?k??]efforts. So I studied hard in the middle school and college in order to attain my goal. After graduating from college, I found a job as a teacher. Although I was very busy with teaching, I never gave up my goal. I read a lot of books to get more knowledge. I made experiments to practice and apply what I had learnt from the books. Sometimes, I was so deeply indulged [?n'd?ld?] in my research that I forgot my meals and time. Now I have made great progress. Several of my research papers have been published. The methods ['meθ?d] proposed in my papers have been proven ['provn] to be valuable for the solution of some problems. I am very happy. The ladder of becoming a scientist is still far ahead, but I have climb My Dream 3 Love Is A Telephone Love is a telephone which always keeps silent when you are longing for a call, but rings when you are not ready for it. As a result, we often miss the sweetness from the other end. Love is a telephone which is always busy, When you are ready to die for love, you only find, to your disappointment, the line is already occupied by someone else, and you are greeted only by a busy line. This is an eternal [?'t??n(?)l] regret [r?'gret]handed down from generation to generation and you are only one of those who languish ['læ?gw??] for followers. Love is a telephone which, when you use it for the first time, makes you so nervous and excited that you either hold the receiver upside down or dial ['da??l] the wrong number. By the time you've calmed down, you will beat a loss to whom you should make the call. Love is a telephone which often has crossed lines. And this usually happens to you unexpectedly. Your time will either cross or be crossed. Both cases are refereed [ref?'ri?] to as "triangle". Fortunately ['f?rt??n?tli], all such occurrences [?'k?r(?)ns] are transient ['trænz??nt]. 4 Work and Play Work and play do not contradict [k?ntr?'d?kt] each other; in fact, they complement ['k?mpl?m(?)nt] each other. As the saying goes, "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy." A life burdened ['b?:dnd] with work leads you nowhere, for you would get tired and bored with your daily routine [ru?'ti?n] work. On the other hand, proper recreation [,rekr?'e??(?)n]will relieve the tension and discomfort of our monotonous [m?'n?t(?)n?s] life because it offers you various ways to let out your pent-up emotions. What I usually do to relax after school is jogging ['d??g??] and seeing movies. Usually I don't spare time for exercise, but I value the physical ['f?z?k(?)l] education class at school. Jogging several rounds in the field certainly relieves the day's pressure. On weekends, I'll catch the morning movie for my visual ['v??j??l] enjoyment. I feel revived [ri'vaivd] and energetic [,en?'d?et?k] for another week's work-load. 5 Living life over If I had my life to live over. I would have talked less and listened more. I would have invited friends over to dinner even if the carpet was strained [stre?nd] and the sofa faded. I would have taken the time to listen to my grandfather ramble ['ræmb(?)l] about his youth. I would never have insisted the car windows be rolled up on a summer day because my hair had just been teased [ti?z] and sprayed [spred]. I would have burned the pink candle sculpted [sk?lpt] like a rose before it melted in storage ['st??r?d?]. I would have sat on the lawn with my children and not worried about grass stains. I would have gone to bed when I was sick instead of pretending [pr?'tend] the earth would go into a holding patter if I were not there for the day. I would never have bought anything just because it was practical ['prækt?k(?)l],would not show soil or was guaranteed ['gær?n'tid] to last a life time. 6 About Love I love you not because of who you are, but because of who I am when I am with you. No man or woman is worth your tears, and the one who is, won't make you cry. The worst way to miss someone is to be sitting right beside them knowing you can't have them. Never frown [fra?n], even when you are sad, because you never know who is falling in love with your smile. To the world you may be one person, but to one person you may be the world. Don't waste your time on a man/woman, who isn't willing to waste their time on you. Just because someone doesn't love you the way you want them to, doesn't mean they don't love you with all they have. Don't try so hard, the best things come when you least expect them to. Don't cry because it is over, smile because it happened. 7 True Love An ancient ['e?n?(?)nt] Hebrew ['hi:bru:] text says: "love is as strong as death." It seems that not everyone experiences this kind of strong love. The increasing [?n'kri?s??] poverty, crime [kra?m] and war tell us that the world is in desperate ['desp(?)r?t] need of true love. But, what is true love? Love is something we all need, but how do we know when we've experienced [?k'sp??r??nst] it? True love is best seen as devotion [d?'v???(?)n] and action, not an emotion. True love is when you care enough about another person that you would lay down your life for them. When this happens, then love truly is "as strong as death." How many of you have a father or mother, husband or wife, son or daughter or friend who would sacrifice his or her own life for yours? Many people, in emergency [?'m??d?(?)ns?] rooms with their loved ones have prayed, "Please God, take me instead of them". Find true love and be a true lover as well. May you find the love which is not only stronger than death, but which leads to a truly fulfilling [f?l'f?l??] life. 8 Open The Closed Doors Of he Heart To open the closed doors of the heart, the success of failure of the sun will be able to disperse [d?'sp??s] the dark。 There are two brothers, aged four or five years old, as the bedroom windows are closed all day, and they think the house is too dark to see outside the bright sun, feel envy ['env?]. Brothers on the discussion, said: "We can put together a little outside in. So the sun." Thus, the two brothers with a broom and dustpan ['d?s(t)pæn] to sweep up the sun terrace ['ter?s]. When they moved to the dustpan when the room, which there will be no sunshine. So again and again so many times that the sun or the house did not. Mom is busy kitchen surprised to see them move, asked: "What are you doing?" They replied: "the room too dark, and we point to the sun So come." Her mother smiled: "As long as the windows open, the sun come naturally, why should I scan [skæn] it? " 9 What will matter? Ready or not, some day it will all come to an end. There will be no more sunrises, no days, no hours or minutes. All the things you collected, whether treasured ['tre??] or forgotten, will pass to someone else. It won't matter where you came from, or on what side of the tracks you lived. It won't matter whether you were beautiful or brilliant ['br?lj(?)nt]. So what will matter? How will the value of your days be measured? What will matter is not what you bought, but what you built; not what you got, but what you gave. What will matter is not what you learned, but what you taught. What will matter is not your competence ['k?mp?t(?)ns], but your character. What will matter is not how many people you knew, but how many will feel a lasting loss when you're gone. What will matter is not your memories, but the memories of those who loved you. Choose to live a life that matters. 10 Television Television presents a vivid ['v?v?d] world in front of us. We can bring the theater, art, concerts, and sports events into our homes when we might otherwise never be able to see them. Television brings the world to people who cannot travel. Television can play an educational role in our daily life. Not only can we hear and see news as it happens, we can actually ['æktj??l?] observe the paces and the people involved. Also people are able to take college courses by television. We are more knowledgeable ['n?l?d??b(?)l] of the whole world because of television. However, television can also be harmful. Many of the programs now available [?'ve?l?b(?)l] show violence ['va??l(?)ns] and scenes [si?n] which are harmful to young people. Some students watch television instead of studying and doing exercise. Even though TV can educate and bring the world to us, we must carefully select the programs to watch.
